Anyone who has played video games with me likely cringed when they read this title -- my language can get a bit salty (moreso than the Dead Sea) when playing video games. Surprisingly, this post is not about all of the new vulgarities Hayden has picked up from video games or watching me play them.
So we've had the Wii in our house for over 3 months now and during that time Hayden has watched a lot of gaming. He doesn't want to play -- he just likes to watch me run through the game. We've completely cleared the ghosts out of Luigi's Mansion (a Gamecube title, for the Wii is backwards-compatible) and just this evening we finished Super Mario Galaxy, including the bonus content.
During this time, Hayden has become well-versed in the characters and enemies populating the Mario universe. He and I converse regularly about Boos, Bowser, Bowser Jr. and the lesser-known Cataquack. He remembers scenes and events from the game and even knows some of the galaxies by name. I'm sure to outsiders our exchange sounds like the nonsense one often gets from young children, but in this case it's a real conversation.
We have plenty more games in the Mario series to share, both past and future. Super Mario Sunshine (another Gamecube title) is next on the list. It's fun to watch him experience the games I've already enjoyed and I look forward to the day when he and I can play these games cooperatively or take turns saving Princess Peach from Bowser's latest kidnapping attempt.

I must say that watching Jeff and Hayden play SMG is really cute. Hayden will try and "help" by telling Jeff where he should go and saying "Don't forget those star bits, Daddy."
Most days I loose track on how many times Hayden asks to play SMG and when Daddy will be home. It hard to say if Hayden will like any game as much as SMG but I know that Jeff show him many others.
You've come a long way since Grandma gave you and John your first Nintendo game! Mom
