I consider myself a pretty good cook but not a great baker. A lot of people assume that because I like to cook, I like to bake as well. The truth is that I would much rather cook something then bake. The only baking I do is because Hayden likes to help me and it is a fun activity for us to do together.
I have tried a couple to get cakes right but it has not worked in my favor. Jeff had been kind enough to take pictures of my baking mishaps and for the sack of a good story, I am going to share them. Keep in mind these were nothing fancy, just plain out of the box cakes.
This cake flopped so badly that it wasn't even fit for a plate. It kept sliding off the plate unto the counter that I had to put it in a pan.
I don't know what happened here. It was cool enough to frost but the frosting would not stay on the cake.
Yes, these cupcakes look really good but what you can't see is that they are all stuck together. You can't just pick up one, you have to pick them all up. And for some reason them were hard and heavy as rocks. But they still tasted good. The babies will still get there birthday cake but I make no promises for how it turns out. We will just have to wait and see but I promise no matter how it looks it will still be good for face smearing.

Hey, it'll get all smeared and smashed in the birthday fun anyway. I can't wait to see those pictures!
...costco makes very yummy cake.....
I applaud you for continuing to try. That is really all that counts.
when my daughter was about to turn 1 I took some wilton cake decorating classes. it's one class a week for one month. You may not have enough time for that now, but it's something to consider in the future! Those cupcakes are super cute though!
Thanks for your email today! Hope to hear from you soon!

It should be noted that every single one of the baked goods pictured tasted great. Also, we've got 3 pictures of "failed" cakes, but they are definitely the vast minority. Pretty much everything Jen does in the kitchen turns out ridiculously good. This post is kind of the equivalent of pointing out that even Tiger Woods whiffs a drive from time to time.
The scary thing is I would happily gobble down every one of these "mistakes" in seconds flat!
awww, what a nice comment from your hubby!! ( is it day 9 of 101 or something?) ;)
