Let Them Eat Cake...Maybe.

It is the babies birthday this week and I am going to make them a cake. It is their birthday and they need to have cake on their birthday. I also want to get some cool "first birthday cake smeared all over the face" pictures. But I am a little worried. You see, I don't have the best track record with birthday cakes.
I consider myself a pretty good cook but not a great baker. A lot of people assume that because I like to cook, I like to bake as well. The truth is that I would much rather cook something then bake. The only baking I do is because Hayden likes to help me and it is a fun activity for us to do together.
I have tried a couple to get cakes right but it has not worked in my favor. Jeff had been kind enough to take pictures of my baking mishaps and for the sack of a good story, I am going to share them. Keep in mind these were nothing fancy, just plain out of the box cakes.

This cake flopped so badly that it wasn't even fit for a plate. It kept sliding off the plate unto the counter that I had to put it in a pan.

I don't know what happened here. It was cool enough to frost but the frosting would not stay on the cake.

Yes, these cupcakes look really good but what you can't see is that they are all stuck together. You can't just pick up one, you have to pick them all up. And for some reason them were hard and heavy as rocks. But they still tasted good.

The babies will still get there birthday cake but I make no promises for how it turns out. We will just have to wait and see but I promise no matter how it looks it will still be good for face smearing.
