A Fun Day After All.

So our 4th of July weekend has not gone according to plan. We were suppose to be at my Aunt's cottage on the Big Lake but because of the storms that we had on Wednesday, the cottage still has no power and is a little flooded.

We have been out to the cottage many, many time and love going there. But this time was going to be different because we were going to spend then night. Spending the night some where besides home is a new thing for the babies. I wanted a "practice run" before we go "real camping" in August. Staying over night at the cottage would be good practice because it has an easy out, we can pack up quickly and drive home if needed. Camping does not give us this luxury. I guess like with most things in life, we will just deal with it when we get there.

Yesterday was a very fun and busy day. Since the weather was beautiful and not too hot we decided to go to the zoo. Hayden loved this idea. This was the babies first trip to the zoo. They seemed to like it except for the petting zoo, Jake and Claire cried out in fear and Quinn hung onto me for dear life. We saw lions and tigers and bears, oh my (not really but that was funny to me).

After the zoo, we went home to take naps. The kids did not agree with this plan. The babies fell asleep in the car and that was it, 30 minute nap was all for the rest of the day. Hayden did take a monster nap, good thing because we were going to take him to his very first fire work show.

After naps, the family came to our house for a cook out. The company and food were great. After the tired, melting down babies were put to bed, we got out the Wii and spent the rest of the night playing games. Come to find out, I am awesome at Wii bowling. I was kicking butt and taking names. I am the undefeated champ. We also played Mario Kart, I am not so good at this but I already knew that.

When it was dark and way, way past Hayden's bed time, we went to fire works. This was his first fire works show. I was really looking forward to this because I thought Hayden would really love the show. Well after we were there for about 7 minutes, I kid you not it was 10:07pm, Hayden says, "I don't like this! I want to go home to bed." We managed to push him until the show started at 10:30pm but left after about 10 minutes because the crying and demands got worse. Thats alright, we did not have the best view.

Well that was our day in a nutshell. There is alway next year for more fire works. Maybe Jake, Quinn or Claire will like the show. Here are some pictures from the day.

This is at the petting zoo. You can't see Jake but he is there screaming his head off. When I look at Hayden in these picture this is the conversation I imagine him having in his head.
"Hello sheep...wait this is not right. Where did your head go? Did it get sucked into that hole."
"I don't think that this is right but we are at a petting zoo so I will pet you sheep. Maybe I should tell some one that your head is gone and in that hole."
"Oh, Yeah! There you are sheep. I am so happy. Your head did not get sucked into that hole. Hi Sheep! You are so soft."

This is Hayden and Uncle Lance, throwing up the Horns. Yeah, rock on!
Hayden gets to ride a camel.
Here we are playing Mario Kart. Maybe if I stood too, it would have improved my efforts (think that I am beyond help).
These pictures are my attempt to be a good photographer and capture some fire works. Just another thing that didn't go according to plan. I think that I will keep my day job.

I bet you had much more fun staying at home then going to a damp cottage. :) I think your fireworks pics look great! You can play with them a little too and probably get the effect you were looking for. THey are hard to shoot.

I love the imagined commentary going on inside of Hayden's head. hehe That was hilarious!!

The zoo was a good idea, but sorry the fireworks didn't work out too well.

I enjoyed all your photos! Gave us a good sense of your day. And, can I just say, I LOVE the view outside your windows on both sides of the TV? Way cool. Gorgeous!

And, I'm not so hot at the Wii. I rock at Guitar Hero though...and Rock Band.

Our fourth was much the same as yours, with a cookout, a Wii, and some tired kids. Loved your zoo pics...too cute! I always have high hopes with those fireworks photos, too; I still don't have a good one. Maybe we need a better camera...yeah, that's it, it's all in the camera...

I have to disagree with you about this being the triplets first trip to the zoo. As I recall, we went one time when I was home and with Lisa, Cole, Shannon, Katie, Bre, and my mom. Any one else there?...but I am glad the day turned out to be a fun day after all.

I tried taking photos of our fireworks, but they didn't come out half as clear as yours! One of these days I'll figure out how to take night photos.

Bummer about your camping excursion. Can't wait to hear all about the "real" one in August!
