Don't Do It, Please, Just Don't.

Dearest Santa,

I need to have a quick word with you. I know that I have written you before on behalf of my children but this time I am writing you because I need to make something clear.

Now, you probably saw my children today in the store and you saw what they were begging and pleading for. I know they really, really wanted it and yes, they did look so cute playing on it. But if you bring an kind of musical instruments to my house, especially a drum set, then you and I are going to have serious words.

I just don't think that I will be able to handle all those little hands beating away on drums, even if there are headphones included. It is enough that I have to listen to their Daddy pounding away on the Rock Band drums.

Anymore drums and that might just push me over the edge. I may just be forced to send them to live with you at the north pole, drums and all. And we certainly, don't want that, do we?

So please Santa, choose their gift wisely. I am begging you... please.

Thank you,
Just a mommy trying to hold onto that last shred of sanity.

We threatened everyone with severe bodily injury this year regarding gift choices. We have learned our lesson over the past few years.

It seems what other people think are just wonderful toys for the triplets somehow include toys that no one would ever think of buying for their own kids.

But the triplets? Sure, why not!

And why is this?!

When it came to instrument time, we steered our son away from the drums. However, I just found out this year that they practice on drum pads. Had I known I may have let him play the drums. Probably not, but maybe.

I remember standing in line behind a guy at Walmart, and he put this huge toy on the little conveyor belt- it started squawking and ringing and blaring, it was awful. And he couldn't get it to shut off! But then it all made sense when the cashier made a comment about that toy being fun to listen to all day, and he said yeah, its going to my ex-wife's house. lolol

Oh dear lord, a drum set? That's a recipe for insanity right there.

My husband has been talking about buying drums for the kids. But by *kids* I think he means him. No matter, I would lose my mind before a week was up.

When Katie was about that age...Michael's brother gave her a drum set for Christmas. He obviously had no children. It was evil. Pure evil. And he still doesn't have kids so I can't get back at him yet. But believe you me...that drum set was returned promptly on December 26th.

My kid asked his Grandma for a Transformer for his recent birthday. Now I know that if he asks for one again, I have to grab the phone and yell, "ONLY UP TO CONVERSION LEVEL 2!" because that's all I can manage.

She got him a conversion level 4 Transformer, and every few days I have to spend half an hour reconfiguring it while it shoots at me. Not as annoying as drums, I admit. But still.

You write very creatively. I like it! Thanks for sharing! And for what it's worth, I have to agree with you! :)

I was the last of my friends to have kids so I made some unfortunate gift choices to my friends' kids which I have not been allowed to live down. Worse yet, there is a great deal of revenge playing itself out in my children's gifts. It seems that my friends have long memories and are having MUCH too much fun picking out the noisiest, most annoying gifts for my kiddos. Well, you know what the say about payback!

Hm, something tells me that the Little Drummer Boy might be the song of the day at your house on Christmas! :)

Coming from a house that has a drum set and a trombone...I feel your pain. I hope Santa listens.

Too funny!

I will say as much as those musical instruments may make mommy crazy the kids love them! We have tons of instruments but no drums yet. B wants a set but we really have no place to put them in this house. Maybe Santa can bring them a quieter instrument.

Those kinds of presents live in the homes of the people who give them. Hopefully Santa will obey.

Auntie Sharon gave Jeff a Fisher Price band when he was about their age--including a drum, horns, and even cymbals. I'm sure it wasn't nearly as loud as these drums, but it was very good at waking up brother John. Oh well, perhaps that's how he ended up being a percussionist. Great post and terrific photos.

Oh no! I'm with you- that would be waaaay too noisy with my one kid, much less with 4...
hope Santa listens.
Although they do look pretty cute :)
