I Think I May Have Created A Monster

When I see it come in the mail, I get all giddy with anticipation. I can't wait to get home and start paging through it. My hands sometimes shake with excitement as I try to turn each page.

Everything in there is just so pretty and takes me back to a time when life was simple. I still after all these year would like one, well not just one but the whole set.

I want an American Girl doll and everything that comes with one. Oh the hours of brushing her hair and dressing her up in all those costumes. Just the thought of it makes me happy.

I have drooled over the American Girl catalog for as long as I can remember. I remember the very first time I looked at the catalog. I looked at it so much, the ink began to wear off the pages. I plotted and planned on how to get one. I tried to save my money but this dream of mine has never came true.

But I still like to look. I still like to think about what it would be like to actually own and play with one of these dolls. And it is time that I share this joy. So this time when the catalog came to our house, I showed the this magic catalog of doll goodness to Claire.

And now the torch has been passed on and Claire now knows the joy of this wonderful catalog. Maybe she will get lucky and have a doll bestowed upon her. I promise that I will let her play with it, sometimes.

Her joy and excitement, just made me so happy. Right now, she is in love with the dogs and cats but she will learn of the dolls. All in good time.
All in good time.

Wait, what if she cuts up the whole thing and wants to mail it to Santa like her brother did?

That is sooooo darn cute! My daughter is also totally into cats and dogs. And I've asked my MOM to get an American Girl doll for my daughter (isn't that what grandmas are supposed to do?). But neither my mom nor my daughter are interested. Yet....

My mom has several of the dolls. She got them years ago when she was still teaching reading full time and got the books to go along with them. So far, Maggie hasn't been interested when we've visited, but I'm sure that will change.

Claire is freakin' adorable!

So sweet! We got a catalog too and I loved sitting with Sarah to look at it. She won't be getting one yet this year but maybe in a year or two - I love all the outfits and accessories too!!

My daughter would completely bypass the dolls and run straight for any animals. I think its sweet! The longer I can wait in having to buy her barbies, the better.

I wish Bella liked American dolls! My niece gave Bella her most adored American girl about a year ago and Bella completely destroyed it. That was stupid of me to let her have it, I suppose. I should've saved it for her.

It's gonna be so much fun when Clare gets a little older and you both can enjoy the dolls together. Isn't it fun re-living your childhood through your little girl?

Have you ever been to the American Doll Store?? I have been to the one in Chicago. Three levels of nothing but American Girl Dolls and everything for them. Even a restaurant that you can take your dolls with and go eat at, a theater to watch shows with your doll. Pure insanity and wonderful!

A year ago, the doll of the year was a red head, so my mom already bought it for Alex, to be bestowed upon her when she is an age where she won't destroy it.

Did I ever tell you I lost a friend because of an American doll? Yep, true story... crazy but wonderful dolls.

Um, I definitely have the same problem :)
My oldest daughter Stephanie has FIVE American Girl Dolls! We LOVE them in our house!
Gabi was never really into "pretty" dolls and instead collected Bratz *horrors*
Emma, however, has seen the catalog and is in love. She already has the Bitty Baby and I am sure that by her 4th birthday, she might find herself the happy owner of a lovely AGDoll :)

You crack me up! I've never been very into dolls (they tend to suffer horrible mishaps) but I've seen those American Girl activity books and I always want to get one and sit down and work my way through them. I think you and your daughter have lots of fun ahead of you ... I'm glad you were able to sneak a girl into the mix of boys!!!

Isabel is blessed by being the only granddaughter on Joe's side, and her Mamaw Kay loves American Girl dolls, too.

That being said, Isabel has at least five dolls, the stroller, the trundle bed, and many outfits. One year she even had matching Easter outfits with her doll. (Mamaw can go a bit overboard at times; isn't that what Mamaw's are for?)

Glad you have Claire to share your obsession with!

Grandpa Burd has been busily making two trundle beds for the American Girl dolls who live with Sabrina and Makayla. I like Kit Kitteredge and her story the best. Grandma Burd will probably buy the books that go with the dolls when Claire gets her first, and I am sure that Grandpa B. will be happy to make yet another trundle.

So Cute! I love American Girl dolls too! I still have mine in mint condition in a box somewhere(my hubby refuses to let me display it in ours or our sons's bedrooms) maybe someday I'll have a girl...

You're lucky... Peanut only wants to be a boy... I guess she'll be asking for a penis from Santa...

So funny! My sister was obsessed with these when she was a girl but never got one. I remember looking through the catalogs and dreaming. My oldest daughter's friends are really into these now too. I tried to take my oldest to NYC to the American Girl store for her birthday. I gave her the choice of that or slumber party and she chose the party. The American Girl doll is on the santa wish list but honestly hubby and I have decided she really isn't into it enough to justify the $100 price tag. Guess it is time to start working on my 6 year old since the full size dolls are for ages 8 and up. Maybe I can make her fall in love enough by the time she is 8 :-)

My daughter has ZERO interest in dolls. I bought her one recently, super excited because she kept smiling and pointing to it in the store. Got it home, opened it up, she threw the doll down and played with the effing box. It would be a complete waste of money. And those American Girls are NOT cheap.

Ohhh, I LOVED the American Girl dolls! It was way back in the Dark Ages when they only had three, Kirsten, Samantha and Molly....and I loved Samantha, because she had dark hair and dark eyes just like me! Oh the memories... :-)

Oh, what a cute little sweetheart Claire is! I remember reading the American Girl books when they were first coming out...I'd wait impatiently for the library to get the latest volume, and wish I could have been Kirsten or Molly or Samantha...and now look at what an empire it has become!

I keep recycling it when it comes. I figure we have plenty of time before my girl gets into the dolls... : )

I was never a doll girl, but my mom was. She says that she used to sneak into her playhouse as old as 14 and play with them, and when I was little she had them restored to give to me, but I just wanted to play office.

Maybe Santa will bring you the doll and Claire the doggy ;)

I love how each time she barks she covers her mouth like she's sneezing. So cute!

Am I crazy to have no idea what an American Girl doll is?? :)

Oh, I definitely don't have an American Girl Doll problem in my house - LOL; however, a EUROSPORT magazine has the exact same effect!

I am soooo with you!!!! I can't wait until Melody falls in love with all that doll and accessory goodness! Right now, she's all about dinosaurs. It's talking all my energy to try and project the love of all things girly on to her!

My daughter has wanted one of these for years. She is almost to the age where she can have one and not completely destroy it. My son however, my take her hostage.

That is so funny. My daughter has just discovered that catalog and seems pretty sure Santa will be bringing her many of the items, despite my hinting at the contrary.

An extended family member gave my oldest daughter an American Girl one year. We had never heard of them, but this Aunt lived in Chicago...so....My Mom quickly became obsessed and over the years bought my daughter so many outfits that the damn doll needed her own trunk. A few more dolls came along. Then a Bitty Baby. When I had Miss Savannah, one of the first things my Mom said was that she couldn't wait to buy American Girls again. More power to her, I say!!!
