I need to take a minute to write you this letter before Hayden's 'letter' reaches you. The boy is really confused about things and I just don't want you to get confused too. I know that you have a ton of kids to look after and find gifts for so one boy who insists that he wants something from the Easter bunny and not Santa is likely to get lost in the shuffle.
Now, Hayden really is a really good boy. He does deserve to get toys and books and video games and all the things that he wants. But we need to keep it within reason, alright. You see when I gave me a couple toy catalogs that I got in the mail and told him to use them to help him make his wish list for Santa, I didn't expect him to cut up each catalog in its entirety.
So when you get his letter, it is going to be a little thicker and look a little different than you are probably used to. He has carefully placed each and every tiny piece of paper in to a ziplock sandwich bag and that is what he intends to mail to you. Not a list but just a bag, filled with tiny cut outs of all the toys he wants.

I tried to get him to trim down his 'wish list' but he says it can just not be done. He says that everything in there is very important to him and it just has to stay his list.
I have to stop here and tell you that we are not raising a greedy son. He doesn't always get his way or get every single toy he wants. We are trying to teach him that it is better to give that receive. His Grandma showed him this by taking him to buy a gift for a boy that would not otherwise get a present this year. He is very proud of what he did to help this little boy. Just ask him, he will tell you he picked out a game and pjammies for this 4 year old boy. And he knows what a 4 year old wants because "I am 5 now!"
Anyway, that is about it. With Hayden it is just all or nothing. Always has been and I pretty sure he will always be like this. Just love him through it, I know we will.
Thank you, Santa and Merry Christmas.

I love a boy that does his research. An admirable trait, for sure! Sweet idea from your Mom. I may "suggest" something similar to my kids Grandparents. Just not sure they'd take it from me. I know Santa will be thrilled with Hayden's visuals!
There isn't much a five-year-old boy doesn't want, is there? Other than "girly" toys, that is.
When I told Gabe that Santa only brings one toy to each kid, he cried. I reminded him that he gets gifts from everyone else, too, but he had this vision of Santa bringing a sleighload of toys into our living room and leaving them all for him.
Poor guy.
Hope Hayden gets what he's hoping for the most!
I'm loving his organizational skills....but I think you have a Chad from Million Dollar Listing on your hands!
So sweet of you to forewarn Santa!
P.S. My email isn't working..YES, you can come on my Colorado Vacation with me. :)
I used to categorize my Christmas list: books, movies, cds, etc. And then I would use stars to rate the wantability of it. LOL *** really want ** want * would work. :) My lists were long, too, but I knew I wouldn't get everything. :)
I like his idea. It's original and should get his list moved to the top!
That is priceless...he sure is serious about Christmas!
This is really a beautiful letter, thank you for stopping by.
Haha, my boys do the same thing with the cut outs and bags, except they carry them around till x-mas and match up what they got and what they didn't that morning.
I hope Santa is very good to him this year!
That is just beyond adorable! :D
I really hope he did not try and force you to stick in the mail with him. hehe :)
I hate how, as adults, we have mostly lost that excitement. I hope he keeps it for a good long time.
That is really cute! We went to visit Santa, but Libby refused to tell him what she wanted. When I asked her later she said, "I didn't want to tell Santa what to bring me. I just want whatever he wants to give me." Good answer because "santa" already got her a gift!
that is too cute. loved the letter. =]
Awww, how cute is he!
All or Nothing...LOL! Poor Santa.
I tried giving my son an add like that once to find out what he wanted for his birthday and I think he circled everything but about 10 items in it.
Very good letter :) Hopefully Santa gets your letter first.
I think that will be my son in about 2 years! Right now he just says toys....deosn't even care, just "toys"
That is an adorable letter and how cute that Hayden took the time and effort to carefully cut out everything on his wish list!
It is wonderful to have a decisive child who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to go after it!
You gotta love kids!! I am suddenly reminded of A Charlie Brown Christmas when Sally says that if Santa can't deliver her request, money would suffice. Preferably tens and twenties. Hahaha.
He is such a thorough and good researcher mom! I hope Santa understands.
That is so funny that he cut all the pictures out! Santa needs the visual rather than the words, I guess.
So cute!
I'm sure Santa gets this all the time.
Hayden sounds like a lot of fun.
Aw that is adorable!
I told my son that he could ask for five things, because Santa didn't have enough room in his sleigh for every gift that every child wanted.
Also, Santa was on a budget, so we'd discuss how much money was in the budget (elves' paychecks, reindeer food, etc.) for each child.
It worked - and you know, he'd only ask for FOUR things, then ask Santa to bring ME some books.
Santa always knew just what books to bring, too...he's an amazing fellow in red!
Your kids are just priceless!!
Hey there...you have such a cute family! Thanks so much for the comment on my blog!

Hey go big or go home, right? At least you know that he will never half-ass things. Which is an awesome trait in people. At least I tend to think, but that could be because I have a husband who would be the one to cut the stuff out and just send it in only a ziploc...no envelope, not addresed, no name, to no where....
Go Hayden!
My Sassy got pissed when I told her Santa could not bring her a $250 American Girl treehouse AND a $115 doll. He's Santa not Donald Trump!
How cute! I guess I am lucky that we are not yet at the age where he can really say what toys he wants. But next yr, we'll be right there!
Stopping by from Mama Kat's.

I just love that Hayden...the things he says and does are absolutely precious!!
And you know, honestly, Santa probably appreciates the pictures of the toys so he'll know exactly what to get Hayden!! There's definitely no confusion!
Aw, thats So cute!Im sure my boys would fill up a huge bag of cut outs too!
Too cute Jen! I hope he gets his heart's desire :)
I loved this! Don't you wish you couuld give them the entire toy catalog???? My son is having the same over-the-top present mania this year ... I'm hoping he isn't too disappointed when the entire contents of Toys R Us aren't delivered on Christmas morning!
When I was little, I'd take all of my mom's catalogs and make a list of everything I saw. It was like 5 pages long. Needless to say, I didn't get everything I asked for that year.
My daughter is the same way as your son. She wants everything for Christmas this year. And that's exactly what she said, "everything".
Very cute - sounds very much like my 4 year old who uses ziplock bags for everything! :)
