First, set up a Christmas tree with lots and lots of shiny, sparkly, fun ornaments.
Include ones of Santa and babies and snowmen.
Then for weeks on end, tell them that they can't touch the tree or its lovely inhabitants.
Lastly, if you want to really, really want to push the envelope and drive those toddlers
(and their mother)
CRAZY!
Add presents with fun colored bows on top and tell them that they can't touch them.

Teehee.... I have this going on at my house too!
I understand. We fixed the problem with Elizabeth by putting the junk ornaments that we don't really care about on the bottom and telling her she could *gently* take them on and off the tree.
Seriously? Once the tree was no longer "off limits" she left it alone.
This year she stole her favorite ornaments off the tree and stuffed them in a Mason jar hidden in a Christmas bag all the way in back of the her book shelves. Ummm...WTF?
Haha! Hilarious. We arrived at my parents house yesterday and my mom immediately showed Melody all her presents under the tree and then told her she couldn't open them until Friday. I was all, "Seriously, Mom, have you lost your mind!?"
LOL!! You are braver than me.
I have all of our wrapped presents stashed away in the basement until it is time to open them. hehe.
Maggie has been very good about the tree this year -- though she LOVES playing with the nutcracker ornament. 2 years ago, she loved touching the presents and sitting on the big boxes that Grandma and Grandpa brought with them. Last year, she played with a few ornaments, but the tree was in the corner in the basement and more "out of the way". Out of sight out of mind, I guess.
that is why there are no ornaments or present on or under our tree! lol but ours is fiber optic so Tristan loves to touch he branches
You are a glutton for punishment!
Oh, you are brave!! My daughter has been pretty good with the ornaments, but there is NO WAY I'd put wrapped presents under the tree. They are safe and sound (and locked away) in our guest room. ;)
It is a constant battle with our son and the tree. He probably thinks his name is Braden don't touch.
My kids touch it all. We don't even bother putting real presents under the tree until Christams day and the ornements are ones they have made and not breakable. Solves the torture problem.. but I'm sure it's not as pretty.

I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are saints, these kids. They deserve a ton of presents just for simply behaving.
Although we went to my moms yesterday to look at her decorations and she LET my 2-year old open one because she said "pretty pretty pweese"
Then we got home and my darling thought she could open ours!!!
Amazingly, our twins have never bothered the tree much. Our 11 month old has been a lil more daring, trying to pull ornaments off, but no major damage done *yet*
We opted not to put out presents yet. The twins got into some last year and I'm certain the baby would be all over them if left alone! haha!
Yep, our twins did great with the tree, but the 1 year old not-so-much, so we have a tree with half the ornaments on the top and it's bare on the bottom. It's a conversation starter for guests, though :)
Don't forget to hang candy canes all over the tree and tell them not to touch!
That IS torture!!
We can't even have the presents out. They've already taken off the bottom ornaments and god knows there'd be no presents to open!
You've just described our house!! haha As soon as I tell my 16 month old "don't touch" he goes and touches every single ornament he can get his little chubby hands on!
My mom was telling me that when she was younger, her parents didn't do anything until Christmas Eve and set everything up that night -- tree, presents, decorations etc. She said it was really magical that it all arrived overnight -- and they didn't have to wait to enjoy it. I was thinking this might actually be a really good idea -- and it might for you guys too!
I only wrapped a couple of presents and my daughter opened them up almost immediately. I decided that was the last of the early wrappers. I'll wrap all of the gifts on Christmas Eve after she goes to bed. That's the only way to guarantee that they'll still be wrapped on Christmas.
"I want to open this one"
"We can't. It's not Christmas"
"Is it Christmas today?"
"No, look at the chain."
"oh."
"I think Santa came. Can we open the presents?'
Yeah...at least I only have one of them doing this. The other two know the drill.
I keep telling my dog and kitties the same thing. Why don't kids just listen the first time? lol
Yeah...we have that same insanity going on right now in the Bouf house too. LOL
There are zero ornaments on the bottom half of our tree and NO presents beneath it. I can't deal with the question asking and ornament stealing/breaking ANYMORE!
amen sister....i'm on the crazy train right there with you.....so excited for christmas!! to be over... lol
Pick up some shatterproof ornaments and hide the presents. Then drink a glass of wine. Or two. It's the only way you'll survive till Christmas.
I don't have toddlers but I won't put any of my children's presents out until Christmas morning because I think they will peek ;-) Although since we live out of state now there are quite a few presents from grandmas and grandpas and aunts and uncles already under there.
This is exactly why we didn't put presents under the tree until the last minute!
Hope you had a Merry Christmas!
Or, for even more fun, put candy canes on it and tell them they can't eat them, either.
Yes, I "decided" not to play that game this year. I put the tree up, but it is still undecorated. (I have a one yr old. The 3,5 and 6 yr olds I could handle, though they're almost as bad.) I told them if they looked for and found any presents they would go back to the store (which happened to one last year so they knew I was serious) "because it spoils the fun". I wrapped them just before we left, and made them sit in the car when we got home while I put them all out.
ahhhhhhh (sigh of relief from not having to fight those b attles. I just could not have handled it.)
My mom took the torture a step farther when we were kids...she strung up Magic Window cookies on the tree and told us we could only eat one a day! C'mon! She put up my all-time favorite, I would kill for it, cookie and told me I could only eat ONE! Now that's torture.
