How Will You Know Where Home Is?

I thought that it was high time that Hayden learn our phone number and our address. So I took an opportunity of just him and I being in the car to try and teach him. This is how the lesson went.

Me: Hayden, do you want to learn what our phone number is so that just in case you get lost you will know it and some one can help you call mommy and daddy?

Hayden: No, I will learn it when I am 5.

Me: Well alright, what about our address?

Hayden: I already learned that in school.

Me: Really!?! Well then tell me what it is?

Hayden: I was just kidding, I didn't really learn it and I don't need too because if I get lost I will just follow my foot prints left in the mud back home.

Me: Well, what if you are not walking and there is no mud or what if some one like a Police Officer needs to know how to get to our house. How will he know where to take you?

Hayden: If a Police Officer finds me, I will just tell him to take me home.

Me: But he won't know where home is. You will need to tell him our address so that he can take you there. Where will you tell him our home is?

Hayden: Our home is on top of the driveway at our house.

Me: Ok, I am done. I give up. You win.

Hayden: Yippee!!!!! What do I win? A Prize?

Me: Respect.

Hayden: That's good, I like aspect.

You just gotta love this kid. I know that I do.

This makes me feel so much better. Gabe is the EXACT same way.

Maybe it will all be better when they're five...

Have a great day, Jen!

I think we need to set him up with my Emily. She's a year or two older, but they'd be like two peas in a pod :)

I already tried to teach him his phone number in a song, as a surprise, but got pretty much the same response as you did. He really can't fathom a world where he is not with people who love him and take care of him. I think that's great! Hope you are all feeling better.

Oh so YOUR house is the one at the top of that driveway!! I've always wondered who lived there...maybe I'll stop by later. We'll do tea.

He's adorable!

He is a cutie. My boys learned their phone number when we sang it, now it's funny, they'll still 'sing' the number sometimes when they are asked for it.

I think that is such a cute story - Sounds like one you would read in reader's Digest.

Their little minds are always working.

You are more patient then me but he has some logic!

Cute! I love how he just assumed the cop would know where he lives... kids that age think that cops are like superheroes....

My girls still don't know their phone number either... though we will make a much bigger effort in the next few months when we get back to India.

There's a great book my girlfriend gave me last year called "Protecting The Gift". It's all about keeping children and teens safe. Well worth the read!

Too funny! My 5 yr old nephew told someone to have "patience" the other day. I'm like he knows what that means?! My sis said no he was just repeating it. LOL!

Since there's just the one driveway, there shouldn't be any confusion with the policeman.

DUH Mom, of course the house is at the top of the driveway!!!!
That line right there had me giggling. He had some good answers for you. I wouldn't have been able to keep a straight face. :)

That is too funny! He has everything figured out doesn't he?

Hahaha I love that! I don't actually know if the kids I nanny for know their phone number and address. Hmmm....

Maybe I should teach those to them this summer, if they don't know them! I'm sure they'll make every effort not to :)

At some point, there's just no point in arguing, is there?

That's too funny. You have to give the boy credit for being incredibly correct and straight forward Your house IS at the top of the drive-way.

I missed your Sunday post for some reason. . . so I will just comment here:

I think (even though I've only been married two years) that every marriage experiences highs and lows and definitely plateaus (that wasn't supposed to ryhme). I also think that couples need to spend time AWAY from the babies. Plop them on your kind friends and family and take a weekly date night. Something simple and something fun. No talking about babies or things related to the babies. Pretend like you two are "dating" again. Get to know each other all over again. Heck, go parking, which would definietly spice up the sex life. And I agree with some of your other commenters, early morning is sex is WAY under-rated.

Although, you've told us your morning schedule, so you might want to wake up early and seduce the hubs awake.

And I think you are a popular blogger and regardless, I sure like you alot.

Hmmm... was this the longest comment I've ever left? I think so!

Super cute pic! We're not really to this point yet but I think tattooing some sort of "return to ___" or "call ____ if found" on their little person sounds like the safest way to go! :-)

Awwww, that's one cute kid!!! How can you argue with that?? LOL!!

BTW, a friend told me a good way to teach my kids their phone number was to teach it to them in the form of a song they already know. I used the "Muffin Man" and it went:

Do you know your phone number? Your phone number? Your phone number? Do you know your phone number....where you live....
XXX-XXX-XXXX, that is it...XXX-XXX-XXXX.

It's kinda silly but after singing it with them 2 times they totally got it. They still remember the song one year later!

little man told me (a few years ago when we tried to teach him those things) that he would just ask princess, because she would be with him.

then i said, "well, what if someone takes you away? how will you find your way home?"

his response, "you always say if someone took me, they'd bring me right back!"

he right, i do tell him that! :)
