Race Against the Clock

I live and breathe by the clock. Some days I have the day or at least the morning planned down to the minute. This is especially true on the days that I work.

On those days, six people have to get dressed and ready to go all before 7:00am. Here is a sample of what the morning is like.

5:21am Alarms goes off
5:22am Snooze bar is hit
5:30am Jen is out of bed and in the shower
5:52am Jen is dressed and ready to go
5:52-6:05am Jen gets school bags in the van, pours juice cups, gets lunch made, checks email, gets Jeff up to the shower, lets the cat in
6:05am Wakes up kids. Hayden is first and then babies, tells babies to go and wake Hayden up more, gets OJ cups for babies
6:07am Dressing first baby.
6:13am Dressing second baby, calls for Hayden to come down stairs
6:17am Jeff gets out of shower
6:18am Dresses third baby, calls again for Hayden, Jeff irons shirt
6:20am Hayden is now down stairs running to the bathroom to pee, Jeff irons pants
6:21am Hayden is told to get dressed but not doing it fast enough so Jen dresses him, Jeff is fully dressed
6:24am Jen is putting shoes on and gathering stuff to leave
6:26am Jen goes around and gets kisses and hugs from everyone
6:28am Jen puts coat on and walks out the door.
6:30am Jen pulls out of drive to go to work and get coffee (yes that is right, all this is done with out one drop of caffeine)
6:30-6:45am Babies and Hayden get coats on, told to go out and get into seats in the van
6:45am Jeff gathers laptop, buckles kids into van and drives to school.
7:10am Arrive at school

(I am a little fuzzy on the last 30 minutes of the routine because I am already at work. But this is how I imagine it to go.)

So now, since you know our little morning routine that happens 2 days a week, I ask you this question....

What happens when I get up at 6:34am?

Thats right folks, 6:34am!

I will tell you what happens, sheer and utter panic and an adrenalin rush that causes that whole routine to be done in about 33 minutes.

Whew! Talk about your time trial. If there was an Olympic sport in speed dressing, I might just have a good chance at the gold or at least the silver after this morning.

it amazes me how much we manage to cram into smaller + smaller time frames when it is needed.

Yep, that adrenaline rush would have rocketed me into outer space. Wow.

This is the difference between having 2 vs. 4 kids..I don't start panic mode until I am out of bed 15 min late.

I'm seriously all about the extra sleep. It always amazes me...the more time I have, the more time I waste. Less time, kick into work mode and get it all done!

Wow...I'm impressed you were able to get it all done! Way to go!

You're just amazing, that's all there is to it. It's 9:07 and I'm still in my pj's (pretty much every day)

Wait. Backup a little. Forget about being late...

How in the world do you shower AND get ready in 22 minutes????! It takes me 10-15 just to shower and then at least another 5-7 just for y hair. Forget about moisturizer, make up, brushing me teeth or anything else.

I bow to you.

You hit me in the eye again with your super-woman cape. Didn't I tell you to be careful with that thing?!

You really are doing an awesome job, Jen. I think you're awesome (but you better lock that cape up baby because if I ever see it laying around?? It's MINE!)

Supermom!!!!!! Wow...Your schedule makes me tired and I am just reading it!

I ABSOLUTELY hate when I forget to set the clock or turn it off instead of hitting snooze...LOL (the later is the one that happens to me most frequently!!!) I panic when running late and my poor children...just RUN with the flow!!!!! LOL

Holy hangernade! And I was filled with awe and wonder reading your list and then I find that you did it all without caffiene and I was very impressed. And that come to find out that you had to do that all this morning in like 30 minutes. Good work woman!

So look on the bright side...you have proven you can do it...that means you are not able to get an extra 1 hour sleep on work days!!!

Holy cow that's a tight schedule. I can't imagine how crazy it is in your house in the morning...

We have a similarly chaotic morning, though right now it's only 1 child out the door at 7:20 am and the other at 8:30 am - so I have time... but next year I'll have 2 that need to be up and ready and out to the bus at 7:20.

Oh boy, scary! Let's hope you don't wake up at 6:34am on a workday very often - what you have achieve in 33 minutes is scaring me!

Although you do sound like you need the extra rest ...

I just read your blogs for the first time and I laughed, we both have husbands named Jeff and kids named Hayden, but mine is a girl. I hate for the day my kids start school cause that sounds like a schedule I will have!
