Then as they grow, new foods come into the picture. Our kids palate is our to shape and mold. As their mothers we can expose them to many tastes and textures in the hopes that they will like the good stuff more than just the sweet stuff.
Now this is not an easy task. Sometimes kids don't really like the food that you prepare for them. Even though there is no logical reason for them to turn their noses up to it. It can also be a battle to get them to eat what is good for them versus what is not so good for them. It is a delicate balancing act.
Well, I think that I have found a nutritious food that my kids will eat no matter what. It holds the right balance of nutrition and sweetness that they kids love. It is full of vegetables and my kids actually ask for more of it.
Are you just dying to know what this miracle food is? Well, wait no more. The food that my kids will always eat is....
KETCHUP!

That is right folks. My kids L.O.V.E ketchup. They seriously can't get enough of it and I love it because they are eating a vegetable (tomatoes with all that yummy lycopene).
If I put ketchup on any food they will eat it and sometime if I am feeling crazy and extra nice, I just skip the food and give them a bowl and a spoon. Its a ketchup free for all. Their little ketchup covered smiles are all the thanks that I need.
Oh they just love it and it does my Mommy heart good to see them eat something that they love and that is good for them. I think this is definitely a score for mommy.
So there you go. Consider yourselves let in on this little secret. You can all thank me later.

That particular global miracle food is popular with my littlies, too! There is a fair bit of sugar in it, but who cares. For a while my boy would only eat food covered in ketchup and cake sprinkles. He'd be eating something like brocolli with ketchup and sprinkles on it.
AJ ate brocolli caovered in ketchup last night. Made me want to gag but he loved it.
A little something for you on my site.
I was fine with it until you mentioned eating it from a bowl with a spoon. No.
Funny, I was just thinking about this last night that at least Tristan eats ketchup since he doesn't do veggies.
You just jogged a blog out of my head. Thanks!
Graham's first 'real' food was ketchup... he'd eat it by the bowl ful... BBQ sauce too... I can't stand the stuff myself!

Ketchup is considered a food group in our household! Ranch dressing is too...although it is not as healthy.
You can not eat ketchup like soup. That's just wrong (shudder)).
When they get older I'd recommend adding BBQ sauce to your repertoire... it has a bit more punch and does a great job of masking flavors like the salmon mommy spent hours marinating and broiling to perfection.
Oh yes! We also loooove ketchup, and we have one here without preservatives. The Little Miss' school buy it is buckets full. The other day they had pancakes with syrup at school and some kids even wanted ketchup on that!
Oh yes, the wonder food/sauce.
You can even take a toy - say your happy meal toy - dip IT in the ketchup and then eat the ketchup off it. Works like a french fry I guess. {scratches head}
My particular favorite for turning her nose up at food is after she's eaten 5-6 bites of it, then refusing more declaring loudly "I don like it!"
fabulous....I think I lucked out...my son will eat anything....even spinach...don't know who to thank for that....but anyhoo...you go welcomista...you go...great idea.
We buy ketchup in the club pack size!
none of my little ones like ketchup + lydia still ONLY eats it on chicken nuggets. not fries, bot burgers, but chicken nuggets.
We should have tried this last night during the battle of wills that was supper. Grilled cheese sandwiches and Maggie just turned up her nose. What kind of kid won't eat grilled cheese??? (she sat at the table crying for 45 minutes because we wouldn't let her leave without at least one bite. Rocky finally cajolled her into that one bite.) Next time, I'm bringing out the ketchup.
That's hilarious! My kids are big ketchup lovers too, although if I ever put just a bowl of it in front of them, they'd look at me like I'd lost my marbles! =)
My secret was ranch dressing, but the ketchup sounds like a good option, too. Broccoli with ketchup for dinner tonight? We have a winner!
ha ha - sometimes it is the only way we can get our kids to eat something - load some ketchup on it!
LOL--whatever works, right!?!
I've always considered ketchup to be the fifth food group! My kids eat it with everything:0)
sofie loves bread with ketchup...and i can't let her do it! seriously...she'll be a little el chubbo with a diet like that. if i offer other things first, she's fine. once she sees the bread, it's done!
Only a few of my kids like ketchup. I think that's weird. I thought everyone liked ketchup. :)
They could be NORWEGIAN... they eat Ketchup on EVERYTHING here... Pizza..noodles...sandwiches.. yuk...
My kids are all about ketchup too...and honey and Ranch Dressing! Too bad condiments don't count as a full meal! lol
Sad but too true! My son once ate grapes dunked in ketchup! I kid you not!
I hear you...it is the one and only nuritional nutralizer in my house:-)
How funny! We're really struggling trying to find foods my daughter will eat. Who knew the answer was in the door compartment in my refrigerator!
tomatoes really are good for you. when my boys lick ketchup off their plates and grab handfulls of it and eat it alone, I always tell myself that.
my kids hate ketchup! princess will tolerate it on a hamburger, but that's about it.
LOL! I'm glad that my girls only eat ketchup on food that go with ketchup. :)
ROFL!!!
Ketchup is definitely one of the 4 food groups with my oldest daughter. She puts it on everything from ketchup to pizza.
I never deny here either - because it gets her to eat the food, even when she really doesn't want to. :)
DOOD Ketchup is totally a vegetable. A tomato product. Just like Spaghetti sauce. Seriously. I say so, so you know it must be true.
That's hilarious! Trevor hasn't really been introduced to ketchup yet...perhaps I should start. LOL!
Yesterday Caroline dipped her cornbread in ketchup, while I hung my head in shame. No self-respecting southerner would ever do such as that. But now I feel a tad better...thank you for the encouraging me!
As long as my kids are eating I could care less what it is covered in LOL. Ketchup is usually in high demand.
Some days, around here, there is just not enough Katchup.
