The Joy of Photos Stories Giveaway

"Mommy, who is that?"
"Mommy, where am I in this picture?"
"Mommy, is that you when you were little?"

I have very fond memories of pulling a huge blue vinyl photo album out of the cupboard to look at as a little girl. I remember laying on the floor studying each and every page over and over again. Trying to take in each and every detail of every photo.

I also remember sitting in my Mom's lap looking at that book with her. She would tell me the stories that went along with each picture; stories of when she got married, stories of how I was born, stories of me as a baby.

I think this is one of the reasons that I love photographs so much. To me they are not just pictures of people and places but they are keepers of stories, of history, my family's history.

I love to take photos to preserve this my family's story. And now that photos are for the most part digital, that makes taking, storing and sharing photos a whole a lot easier.

But with this with ease of taking, sharing and storing, there is something that is lost.

With digital photos being on the computer the whole part of sharing their story is lost. Sure my digital pictures all tell the story of the events that they captured but who gets to hear that story when they are all nicely organized and categorized on the computer? I have not prints to handle, no books to look through.

The whole process of retelling the stories of our families past is lost on my children. They do not know the joy of sitting on my lap and listening to me tell them of their birth or the first time the tasted birthday cake.

So I am decided to fix this issue and give my children the joy of sharing photos by making this, a photo book. I am hoping that this will be the first of many.
I made this photo book with Free software from Freeze Frame Publishing. I went to their site, downloaded the Free software and in one nap time, I had made a book of photos. A tangible book that my children can hold and we can look at together.

The software was really easy to use and one great feature about it is that you don't have to stay on-line to use it. Once you download the software, it is yours. You can work on your book anywhere. It is really cool for those who use a dial up connection or where there is no WiFi.

When this company contact me for a review, my first response was to say no. I really don't like to do reviews but I was so impressed with this product that I really want to share it. And I especially want to share the joy of sharing photo stories with you and your family.

So to one of my lucky readers, Freeze Frame Publishing is offering one of their 8.5 by 11 photo books. It is has 20 pages and can hold up to 60 photos. You can check out examples at their site or you can see the one that I made here.

If you would like to be in the drawing for this photo book, then just leave a comment telling me so. I will leave this give away open until Friday and announce the winner this weekend.

You won't be disappointed in this product. And I know that it is still summer but we will all blink and it will be Christmas, what a great gift one of these books would make. Oh and Freeze Frame also has software for making calendars.

Now go and share the joy of photos and their stories with your kids.

I would love to be in the drawing! While my digital cameras are awesome I don't have any tangible pictures to show around. That's one reason why I'm making the teen a scrapbook for graduation. I have countless pictures of him during the school years...on my computer or saved to photobucket, which of course means I'm the only one that sees them.

I want that. NOW!!! :-)

I want it so much I am totally willing to buy the book after I download my free software! Whooo-hooo! Thanks for the link and if I don't win, then I'll head over and buy. I think you are right about having something tangible to hold and to look back on. Awesome!

I have been thinking the same thing. I recently printed out about 50 pics to take to a college reunion. It's nice to have those things in hand, and the kids LOVE looking at them. I have been thinking I need to make a book. Of coarse, it's always about time, with 4 small children, isnt' it? :D Looks great. I'm sure they are gonna wear those pages out!

What an awesome idea! I send my family and friends links to my online albums, and I show my son pics on the computer after I edit them. But it is not the same as having one in hand! Thanks for doing the review so your readers have the benefit of a give-a-way!

I had actually decided to do the same thing and was going to get started next week when T starts school.

I'm sure your kids will love the photo book and one thing I'm excited about is that they won't be as heavy as a photo album!

Great idea. I still love going through my old photo albums, and the kids love those stories. But you're right, they miss the stories and closeness of hearing about US. The stories we created together. I'm checking out the Freeze Frame link now.

how cool.... I would love to do this... I have a nice photo printer but never seem to get around to printing up pics... and haven't filled a photo album in years...

The free photo book is great but why don't you upload all your photos to a place like Shutterfly on a monthly basis, then order them directly from Shutterfly and they ship right to your house so you can put them in albums. Cuz I am like you, I want to snuggle on the couch with a glass of wine and look at pics. So although we have an awesome photo catalog on the Mac, nothing compares to printed pics. I did research and like Shutterfly the most.

Very cool and sign me up!

I have actually been using Kodakgallery.com (former Ofoto) to create books/calendars since Rocky and I got married (you and Jeff are in our wedding album). It was much easier for us to create wedding albums for our families rather than purchasing the photographer's. And we got to use other pictures. Most recently I made a book for one of Rocky's neices when she came to visit.

I have also used Photoworks.com. They have a perpetual calendar you can add your own dates to. I'm making one of those for my Mother-In-Law after our most recent family reunion.

I have also (just because I love photos) started a family journal so I can half-assed scrapbook. I got a toddler journal for Maggie and enjoyed it so much that after she outgrew it, I started a family journal. Maggie loves to "help."

I'd love to win! I think nothing takes the place of a good ol' fashioned album, I still look through the ones my mom put together when I was growing up. I especially love her hand written captions, priceless!

I enjoyed your photo album. What an awesome idea to cherish memories for the kids. We enjoy looking at albums as a family so this would be perfect for us to try. Thanks for the info. and take care.

I totally agree with you! Back when I had 26 pictures at a time, I could turn them in and pay a reasonable amount of money and get prints. Now I have hundreds of digital pictures and I keep thinking about how I need to find time to sort them all out and at least get SOME prints made. This would be a wonderful idea and I'd love to be entered into your contest!

Oh, Jen, this would be awesome! I LOVE to scrapbook but I just don't have the time anymore. I get backed up with like a year's worth of pictures & get sad. So I started to do photo albums but this would be cooler and maybe satisfy the creative part of me, too! I am with you. My dad took (and takes) great pictures of us growing up and I love to hear about them still. I already love to go through my scrapbooks with Moose and tell him about me and my past life...well, teh good parts!

This would be a great thing to do for my girls! Thanks for the link too!

that is one of my favorite memories with my mom too...looking through the old photo albums. she was awesome at keeping up with them. me...not so much. i totally agree that the ease of digital age in photography has made it all too easy for me NOT to print anything. i am hoping to reverse that trend soon!

I would just love to win this contest! With 4 kids 2 and under I have pictures piling up and haven't done a thing with them. One of my goals is to make an album that chronicles my son's cancer journey. I want him to be able to know what an amazing warrior he was at only 2 years old!

I managed to get an album done for the kids first years, but have become slack at printingphotos since then. My two adore looking through their baby albums.

those photo books are fabulous! My Mum did one for my Dad's 50th birthday!

Thanks Jen!

Oh, I still love to look through our old photo albums! Next time we're at my parents' house, I want to pull the albums out and start showing my kids...they will start to recognize people and understand it all now!

I want in! I LOVE photo books. But I am usually too cheap to buy the big hard cover one, I get the smaller ones. Of course when I get them I have to get about 7, for the entire family! I do a lot of scrapbooking too but it is getting time consuming when I have so much going on!

That is an awesome prize. I am a scrapbooker, but have a hard time finding time to do it with two little boys running around. I've been debating about making a book like this or trying digital scrapbooking. But once my boys get a little bigger, I want to be able to show them pictures.

I have been doing Creative Memories scrapbooks for years. But honestly...I don't like the crafty part of it. I put my pictures in. Tell my story. And move on. So, when those photobooks came out...they called my name!

However, the internet connection where I live sucks! And it takes forever and a day to upload. So I am sitting on years worth of pictures...I need to start somewhere!!
