I really do like the water. I enjoy swimming in it, playing it and just being around it.
I love the water so much that when I was a little girl, I wanted to be a mermaid or a dolphin that had magic powers. These powers would allow me to be a dolphin one day and a girl the next. I would spend my days as a dolphin frolicking and playing in the waves and the next day I would be a girl, back with my family. It was a really cool plan.
*sigh* The happiness and innocence of childhood. *sigh*
It goes without saying that I am over joyed my kids have a love of water. Sure, they all love it in varying degrees but each one is willing to play in it and swim around. It makes this Mommy happy.
But swimming when I was a kid and swimming now as a Mommy are two totally different things. When I was a kid, I could spend hours upon hours playing in the waves, splashing and kicking until my legs could no longer go.
Now, when I am in the water, my movement is more restricted because there is usually a child or two hanging on me. I also am forced to get in an out of the water more than I would like.
You see, it is because of these water loving children that I have a little junk in the truck and in the front and on the sides. Oh, lets face it, there is a lot more wiggle to my thighs than in the past.
I am not one of those women blessed with skinny thighs where they don't touch in the middle. I got me some curves, always have and always will. Well, this presents a problem when I am around water.
When I get out of the water, my wonderful thunder thighs hold on to a little bit of the pool or lake. And as I walk, they slowly release it making me feel like I am constantly peeing myself.
So like any normal person, I try to ever so discretely open my legs and stick a plush towel in there to soak up the wetness. But with my crumbliness, it is never discrete because I usually end up losing my balance and falling over a chair or child.
But even though this space or lack of space is dry, it still causes and problem.
So I have dried the skin but I am still wearing a wet swimsuit which makes my skin damp which makes walking very difficult because my thighs not only touch when I stand but the rub together when I walk and add in a little bit of moisture and you get some major chaffing or worse sticking.
There is nothing like trying to walk or run after your child at the pool when your thighs are stuck together. You go and take the first step and nothing. The thighs have joined and there is no separating them without causing more painful chaffing.
I end up having to walk around looking like I have been riding a horse for the past 3 days. It is not pretty and SO not lady-like.
The only solution that I see if for me to stay in the water, keeping my thighs well lubricated, and making requests of others like Daddy or Grandma. This also gives me a chance to channel my inner dolphin once again or maybe now it would be more like my inner whale.

I can definitely relate to the love of swimming as a child, and the dread of this current body being seen in a swimsuit now. Let's both forget about it and jump in the pool today anyway!
Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!
so relating. I just stay in because I dread getting out. Yuck.

this made me crack up.
lol....you crack me up!! and i know what you mean about the discreet towel wipe!! lol
I hear ya!!
When I started reading this post I had no idea how funny it was going to turn out. You cracked me up! I can absolutely relate and would have never been able to make the explanation so hilarious!
Well at least you will get in the pool with your kids...we have a pool and if I had a dollar for every mom that shows up here WITHOUT a swimsuit for swimming dates I would be rich. I am by no means attractive in a suit but my kids don't care...it's hot...and the water feels great! It sure beats sweating in your clothes watching me enjoy myself.
I am going to be VERY honest here but I am saving for inner thigh liposuction. I am only about 8 -10 lbs over my normal weight but no matter what, all my adult life my thighs have uncomfortably stuck together. I was never one for lipo or surgery but this area is genetic and resistant to normal diet and exercise because even at my healthiest it is SO annoying. I never thought I would do anything like this but I am SO going for it!!!
I feel your pain. No matter how discreet we think we're being somebody is bound to catch us.
Well, I've never met you in person but I know how beautiful you are. I know your kids do too.
I could have written this post. Right down to the mermaid. (Only with me it was mermaids and unicorns, not dolphins)
Isn't it fun to watch your children splashing around, having a blast?
Hey, thanks for saying what I'm thinking every time someone even hints @ swimming!
LOL....
I wear shorts over my swimsuit girlie...If not I'd have the same problem and yep! I even swim with them on. I just make sure they "look like" they go with the suit so I don't get any of that "you can't wear shorts in the pool speach" ;)
Yeah, I've got a little hitch in my getalong, as we say down Tejas way. And I love the H20, too. Embrace your face, your thighs, your junk...it's how we roll, it's what we do.
I know exactly what you mean! I mean, my thighs have ALWAYS been like that (ugh) but I think it's getting worse.
I do like the water, too, but we haven't been swimming ALL summer. I hate how expensive the pools are around here...sucks. Well and I can't exactly swim right now anyway (darn that postpartum stuff lol)
Too funny! Guess you have to just stay in the pool.
OMG! I am SO glad it's not just ME with these worries/problems! I'm right there with ya sister, right there with ya.
This is not offensive at all. Just funny. Maybe you should rub some KY jelly between your thighs! That'll do the trick!
I found you while blog hopping! I think the talk about slimy thighs drew me in. I can so relate to the thigh issues in a swimming suit. I feel like with the cellulite, maybe I sound a bit like a washboard as I walk.
You gave me a good giggle, I will be back!
LMA...er, thighs...O! I used to want to be a mermaid too, and then I saw JAWS. No more oceans for me. And I passed it on to my daughter, she and I happily play in the sand (away from the water) together. So my issue is sand in unmentionable places! Talk about walking funny!
I so wanted to be the mermaid in Splash!
At least you have the courage to go into the water. I'm afraid I"ll be mistaken for a whale.
Hugs and Mocha,
Stesha
hahaha! I wish my son would go in the water! I havent been able to swim forever!!
I LOVE to swim. I feel weightless when I am in the water. It's the getting in and getting out that are the issues. I don't even get into the pool in my own neighborhood. The moms here are thin and fit. And then there is me. I get a lot of reading done at the pool :-)
LMAO off! I hate that too. Nothing make me feel more unattractive than wondering if it's water or pee running down my leg and that uncomfortable feeling when my thighs are rubbing together!
I hear ya... I may be thin, but I have big hips and thighs... not fun or attractive when you're only 5 feet tall!
omg you had me at the title of this post.....
I love water too and so do my kids. And I have experienced the very same thing! My only consolation is that at least we try to cover up our imperfections....there are a ton of moms at our neighborhood pool that are wearing tiny bikinis and they SHOULD NOT be wearing bikinis. At least our body parts stay put....they're chasing after their kids while their boobs are flopping out of their tiny tops and half their ass is jiggling out of the bottom of their bathing suit. I think we're much easier on the eyes than THOSE moms.
I admire you for putting this out there ... I just waddle and wad and pat in shame!
Oh I know! Go read my little post from Sunday, please?
I HATE THE CHUB RUB.
I was roflol!! You have so been spying on my life!
How honest of you! Wow.
I can relate to this 100%. I love the wear skirts and dresses in summer but my little secret is that I wear little bike shorts under them... for the same reason.
