The Girl Can Talk

I had always heard the about the stereotype that girls like to talk. Personally, I don't really fit into this so I have not ever really given it much thought until Claire came into my life and learned how to talk.

Claire likes, no loves to talk. Jeff and I have come to the conclusion that she has a word quota that she needs to meet each and every day. And this quota is high, like thousands and thousands and thousands of words must be spoken by her each and every day.

And it just so happens that this quota increases when we are in the car. I think that she thinks that in the car everyone has to listen to her so steps up her game.

On a recent car ride to my parent's house which is about 30 minutes, she rambled on continuously. At times, I wondered if she would pass out because I didn't really know how or when she was breathing. It was just continuous word vomit that never ended.

At times, she seemed to be talking about something happening in our lives and other times she just talked about things she saw outside the car or just said the first thing that came to her mind. The only thing that was consistent about these statements was that she said them all and she started them all the same way.

"Cause someday is is is sing at nonna and papa house."

"Cause someday is is is fire engine hurt my ears and scare me. Rrrrgh"

"Cause someday is is is middle truck big."

"Cause someday is is is new shoes as a present from Santa."

"Cause someday is is is new car for Daddy."

"Cause someday is is is car has snow on it."

"Cause someday is is is talk from Hayden, Jake and Quinn."

"Cause someday is is is seven eight seven eight seven eight."

"Cause someday is is is has kitty say meow meow."

"Cause someday is is is doctor make my cheek feel better."

"Cause someday is is is mommy set on hammer."

"Cause someday is is is snowman need medicine in eyes and nose."

"Cause someday is is is see snake out window and scare me but frog ribit away."

"Cause someday is is is daddy me sing song."

"Cause someday is is is daddy time to shut er mouth."

It was so cute to listen to her talk but I began to wonder about something. If this is what she is like at 2 years old, what is she going to be like at 16? One things for sure, she is totally going to need the unlimited minute plan for her cell phone.

So so cute! I'm not sure which one I love more "frog ribit away" "mommy set on hammer" or "seven eight seven eight..." :-)

Ha I love it! I'm hoping by the time she's 16, we won't have to have "minutes" on our cell plans. I mean, seriously, no one even has a landline any more :) Plus, I still have like 900 minutes to go this month and I'm NOT gonna make it! Ya know, if she needs any minutes to borrow

It really must be a girl thing. Both my girls talk from the moment that they get up to the moment that they go to sleep:-)

with 4 girlies, there's a lot of flipping words in this house. i love the beginning word use by claire...i mean, she can get way more words out that way. she's a smart one...and pretty darn cute too.

I have a theory about why my son talks so little.
It's because the poor kid just can't get a word in edgewise when his big sister is around!

LOL! I am right there with you! We had friends over on NY Eve and they have 5.5 year old twins girls. My friend kept commenting how good and how MUCH Sarah was talking - that she spoke clearer and better than most kids in her girls' KDG class....

All I could muster was "Really? This is a GOOD thing? Oh....."

it sounds just like my girls...who, incidentally (along with james) are talking a mile a minute while they are supposed to be napping!

So cute!

Funny how you can't wait for them to talk, but then you long for the occasional moment of silence.

Ha Ha Ha! I have a chatterbox, too. She was watching a Barbie movie yesterday while I was cleaning and after about 6 or 8 minutes (that's a LONG time) of non-stop talking I realized she was summarizing the movie for me because I wasn't watching. I am so glad she doesn't really expect me to listen, but I wonder about the quota. You could be on to something . . .

My oldest--who is now 12--was exactly like this. Except I didn't make the realization that she never shuts up until she was about 5 or 6. The girls seriously talks from the time she opens her eyes til we part ways each night. The upside to this? She has turned into a wonderful conversationalist. I love our talks. She makes me laugh. So there is hope.

The word vomit just gets worse as they get older!! Adorable that she started every sentence the same way!

My daughter is a chatterbox, too. Except I can only understand about 1 in 10 words. I look forward to the day when we can actually converse. Of course, when that day comes, I'll probably be longing for the days when it was all babble.

unlimited cell phone plan? maybe, but i'm guessing she'll need the text package, too!

LOL! So adorable! Seriously, that's really really cute. And you've got to wonder what she's referring to in many of them. Were you busy with a hammer recently? And that last one - daddy time to shut er mouth? Hilarious!

Wow, she IS a talker! That is so cute!

Ah yes- girls are very vocal by nature! I had 2 girls and then a boy- both girls were speaking fluently by the time they were about 18 months, and my son would say a few words at 18 months, but he mostly grunted, pointed and made sounds like an engine running! Oh yes- you just wait! LOL :)

Oh yes, 100% pure girl! I know - mine suffers from verbal diarrhoe.

Oh she is so precious! I know the feeling of looking at a 2 year old girl and wondering what life will be like when they've got their own phone.

For now it's hard enough to deal with the tantrum when I hand up the phone without letting her have her necessary chat with Grandma / Grandpa / Aunty Whoever / Random wrong-number caller ...

Seriously when can we get together and let our kids play?

Swirl Girl said...

I know the first part of one of her babbles:

"why is six afraind of seven?"

"because seven eight nine!"

My son is the same way! We say he has diarrhea of the mouth! I asked him once, doesn't he get tired of all the talking? He said to me "mommy I talk so much because there are just so many words in the world and I need to use them all"

What a cutie! I promise you it does slow down with age a bit.

Gosh, it really is too bad that we live so far apart...she and Bella would be best buddies. I don't think Bella ever stops talking.

Oh my nose sting with laughter! You are so funny! Word vomit! lol

And it's true..most women have a talk quota that they need fill. lol.

I'm still cracking up! Now I wonder about my daughter.

Welcome to my world. I don't have girls, but I do have talkers - THREE of them and it has gone on for 25 years now. I am literally amazed that my ears have not worn down to little nubs!

I blame my husband - he is a World Class talker and he has passed this trait down to all THREE of his sons and for some reason, every one of them needs to talk to me - all day every day.

You'd think I'd be used to it after all these years, but I don't think you ever get used to it.

And the phone thing - last month, my middle son racked up nine THOUSAND text messages on his phone. Welcome to your future.

It does not get any better. My mother is just turning 50, and OMG can the woman talk. A five minute dash into the house to chat for a few minutes, and I return to my home like five hours later. It seems, no matter the generation, to get worse with age. LOL
