I think that one of the best things about having triplets is that you can have two difference sexes of children at the very same age and development level. This has really been really neat to watch.
I always knew that males and females were different but we really are wired differently and it shows from the time we are young children.
For example, Claire is growing up in a male dominated household. And while she can throw down with the best of them in a wrestling match and a sand fight. She also is a natural born mother. Her mothering instinct just comes out.
From a very young age, Claire began to 'mother' her brothers. She tells them no when they are doing things that they are not suppose to. She will try and calm them when they are sad or hurt. She mimics me in her play and things she likes.
I also noticed that even without having an actually baby doll in the house, she turned stuffed animals into babies and plays house with them. She just has natural instincts and no matter the toys around her, they just come out. It is really fun to watch.
Another area where boys and girls are very different is in how they eat. Well, I can better show you this one. This is Claire's bowl of cereal. She uses a spoon and for the most part gets all the food into her mouth. Sure, there is some spills but that is expected, she is only two.

There is Jake and Quinn's bowls. Their spots look like there was a cereal and milk explosion. They rarely use a spoon and instead, kind of just dive right in and eat. You have to stand back or risk getting soaked.

Interesting, right? But it is not very fun to clean up every single morning. *sigh*
Now, I know that every child is different and sometimes, even in my house they cross the gender lines. But it is a neat thing to watch. But it also makes me wonder what is in store for the future.

Can I print this for my MIL? We had an argument over whether boys were THAT different than girls. I said they were bc I know from my education classes & parenting books. I told her that they were and schools were made for girls and she goes "you're right, I'm just stupid." um ok?
After raising all these boys, girls just fascinate me. I love it when my friends bring their girls over and they sit there in a chair and color in a coloring book or something. I keep staring at them, expecting them to start jumping on the chair or break something. It just doesn't seem normal for a kid to sit still like that.
That's what my kitchen table looks like every morning too...how funny! Bella is very similar to Claire and she's also outnumbered by boys!
Do your boys also manage to get food all over their faces when they eat? Yesterday I let all the kids pick one candy bar from their Halloween candy? The boys had chocolate all over their hands, faces, arms. But Bella had no signs of chocolate anywhere on her!
That's hysterical Jen. GREAT way to show just how different we are.
You are so right. There really are just differences from the start... but there are crossings. Like for me, my daughter is the destructive/destroy everything child... but then will be playing mommy the next minute.
But definitely real differences, which is why it really is best if every child has a mommy and a daddy.
Those cereal pictures say it all, don't they?
Even at just 6 months old, my boy is SO much different than either of my girls! He is just all over the place and I really fear the day that he starts moving independently. I have a feeling all of those breakable items that I simply taught my girls not to touch are in serious danger of being broken anyways once this little man is loose!
I've wondered what it would have been like to have a boy, especially after having 2 girls...
I only have one so far, but it's been intersting to see how different he is from his girl friends.
He is 100% typical boy. There are some definite differences.
It is interesting to see the differences:-)
great post.
stopping by from SITS.
adorable little ones!!!!
Hilarious! As a mom of 3 girls (one tomboy) and 2 boys, I can attest to these differences!!
Haha.
Yup, my daughter is different from my son, that's for sure. She's definately a little Mommy and doesn't hesitate to tell Tommy to be good.
ha ha too funny! my son is super clean and a neat eater - so is my little one - but my first daughter - A MESS!!!!!!!
You have your very own psychology experiment right under your own roof.
even though I don't have triplets, I so know what you mean. I'm glad I have one little girl to keep things sweet around our house!
My boys are messy, dirty and foul mouthed.
My daughter....I am hoping will be the opposite.
A girl can pray right???
I've always wondered that! How do kids just automatically know how to act like a girl, or boy? Sure some parents make them by buying appropriate toys but my nephew was definately boy right from the get go!
My daughter is definitely a neatnik. As much as a 2yo can be, anyway. I never believed it, but boys and girls definitely ARE different.
My daughter just started mothering....now she's mothering me.
And my son...likes to run around in Bobbi's heels and picked out a lovely feather boa at the crap, I mean craft store yesterday.
Okay, I'm just amazed one of them left behind that many fruit loops. That's just wrong. ;-)
It is fun to watch them develop their personalities....and the gneder differences, I can only imagine :)
I have two girls and then a boy and boy oh boy has this little boy thrown me off. He is adorable but totally different from his sisters.
Oh I can also agree on that - they do differ so much. I am however finding that emmotionally boys are much easier than girls. And get her a baby, please. One with a nice soft cloth body.
4 boys and not a girls in sight. I guess I will have to take your word for it. LOL.
I agree! It is amazing to raise boy/girl multiples in the same environment, in the same way and yet see how unique they become. When we bought Jacob a car or train...Sarah got one too. When we bought Sarah a doll, Jacob got one too....yet Jacob has taken over all household trains and Sarah is the only one that plays with her multitude of dolls/stuffed animals...
I have a different side of the eating thing though...Sarah is actually our messier one here - but more so b/c she PLAYS with her food a lot more. When she actually EATS, she's probably neater and her fine motor skills are much better than her brother..but she is a pig!
Oh how I hope for a little girl next time! Right now I am drowning in a sea of testosterone!
Ha!! Looks like our table after pretty much any meal.
