He Can Actually Do Something Beside Jump Off the Couch

Hayden has really been into coloring lately. It is not uncommon for him to go into his art supplies and get out his favorite coloring book and markers.

He was doing just this as I was making lunch. In one of my passes by the table, I stopped to watch him.

My heart just swelled with pride and joy. Hayden is quite the rambunctious little boy and does my heart good to see him sitting quietly.

As I turned to walk away, I looked down at what he was actually coloring. I stopped dead in my tracts. He was doing a really, Really, REALLY good job. He was staying in the lines and everything.

The picture looked like it was something that Jeff had colored and certainly not something a 4 year old colored. Right then and there I knew he was gifted. Kindergarten testing is going to be a breeze, he is going to knock their socks off. Shoot, maybe they will just put him right into first grade.

As I wrapped up all the gloating in my head, I looked down at Hayden and his coloring one more time. And there is was, the thing that crushed all my dreams of a gifted and talented child, The Color Wonder Book.

The coloring book that only allows you to color on the special paper and in the respective lines.

Oh shoot! And you thought you had a genius! I am sure Einstein didn't colour in the lines - in fact I a 100% sure Vincent van Gogh didn't either.

Hey it's a start, every one has to start somewhere.

Drat! But hey - coloring outside the lines (when you're not on that special paper!) shows creativity and individuality! ;)

Coloring inside the lines is WAY overrated.

That's hilarious! At least he was actually interested in coloring. My son just makes a bunch of scribbles and says, I'm done!

Too funny! I love it!

Oh the wonders of Color Wonder. I love that stuff. The messes it saves me....

Anyway, sense of humor is one of the things used to measure intelligence and Hayden has a healthy one. No reason to worry and much to be proud of.

LOL!

Oh, how I do love the Color Wonder stuff though! Such a relief to be able to let them color and not fret over what else will be colored if I step away!

Damn Color Wonder.

What an amazing child! Call the art schools now to get him on the lists...

What's that? What'd you say?

Ohhhh, Color Wonder. Yep, we've got those, too. Makes 'em think their prodigies, doesn't it?

Still awesome if it gets boys like Hayden and Gabe to sit still for more than five minutes.

Oh good on him! He's one clever kid. I'm not much of a colour-er, and that book sounds like what I need. Haven't heard of them over here, maybe I will when my kids get bigger.

Oh no!! Duped by modern technology! Darn it!

color wonder is great - until the kiddies get ahold of a marker that is NOT color wonder and they think it is. that's how we have nice marks on the floor and walls :)

hey, what the testers don't know won't hurt 'em.
I've done that exact thing except I got on the phone to everyone I knew and yes, I even started a blog post. it was only when I took the picture of the masterpiece that I realized I was schooled by the makers of Color Wonders.

yes, but he still did it! and that's what counts. besides, it's your kid, anything they do is freaking amazing, right?

Um...he is STILL gifted and talented.

Yeah, I'm taking up for him. 'Cause he's brilliant.

"Colour Wonder? What Colour Wonder? You didn't see anything, right Mom? I'm totally colouring in the lines!" says brilliant artistic prodigy Hayden.

Hey, if Max sits that long focussed on a fine motor task like that, I'd say it's absolute brilliance. I think you should feel confident saying the same about Hayden! ;-)

LOL!

He's STILL a genius! I am a teacher...I can tell these things...

Hehehehe. I was all "wooo, go Hayden" and then shared you "aww pooey" at the end.

Maybe the book is just holding him back!
