That Was What I Really Needed

I was having a rough day today, just down in the dumps. I get this way, during this time of year. You know, sick of winter, ready for spring, kids going crazy, nobody is cooperating, fighting all the time, life (if you can believe it) is kinda boring, nothing to look forward too, feeling just blah.

It will pass, it always does but sometimes you just need to spend some time wallowing in your own sappiness. Which is pretty much what I was doing today. I had big plans to write this bitchy, whiny post but all that changed as the evening progressed.

I was feeling like a pretty terrible person and mother until I got to spend some one on one time with Hayden. I let him stay up extra late so that we could sit and watch a movie together. It was just him and me on the couch snuggled close together.

We laughed at things and talked about others but over all it was good to just be with him. Even though, he moved off my lap and got a little too rowdy (he is a little boy after all), there was one constant thing through the whole movie. I was showered with love and affection from this little boy. He would say things like,
"Mom, I just love you."
"Mom, I really appreciate you."
"Mom, you really are the best."
"Mom, can I give you a kiss and a hug?"

He just melted all the bitterness away from my heart and renewed my faith. I guess sometimes all it takes is the love of a child, a sweet, sweet totally awesome child.

Sometimes when I think my kids need me the most, it's the other way around. I can't get enough when they shower me with their love and gratitude, it makes all the "stuff" that they did wrong all better!

awwwww... I just LOVE moments like that! Makes everything else just not matter.

Isn't it the cutest when they say, "Mom, I just love you." Love that they use the word "just". Keith does that all the time still :)

Glad Hayden gave you your pick me up :)

Oh Jen, such a sweet post. Spending one on one time is so necessary - I am trying to do more of that as well.

Nothing like the love of a sweet little cherub to turn a difficult day into a delight.

Glad to hear your day ended on a brighter note ")

Little hugs and kind words from our babies are always the best cure for what ails us! (this post made me teary eyed!)

How sweet and special! Awesome that you gave him some extra time to do something fun but great that it worked out in your favor, too!

I surely don't want my kids to grow up any faster than they already are, but I know there's also lots to look forward to down the road as they grow and mature!

That is awesome and so true. I have found myself feeling down and all it takes is something like that. Last week I totally lost it and broke down just from the dogs and stress and eating bad after 2 full days, then Tristan comes to me, wraps his arms around me and says it's going to be ok mommy. I love you mommy. The cutest thing in the world.

That is just the most wonderful thing. I am very excited for the day when my daughter can tell me she loves me. For now, I'll take her little hugs and happy eyes when she sees me.

I know exactly what you mean about this time of year. It is hard not to get down once in a while.

It's nice when your kids can give you just what you need to cheer you up!
