Look at them there, sitting together playing video games. They are just so darn cute. Hayden is taking after his Daddy in his love of video games, like father like son. I just love it...NOT!
Hayden has really, I mean really, gotten into video games. First is was the computer. Fine, I can handle the computer, although it did cut into my blogging time but I can work with that.
Then it was the Leapster. Hayden got one for Christmas. I liked this. It got him off my computer and out of my hair and the best part was that it is educational. He is learning reading skills and math skills.
Now Hayden has moved onto the Nintendo DS. It really amazes me how quickly he has picked it up. He is really good, the little bugger.
But it is all he wants to do. I tell him that it is time to put the DS away and he goes for his Leapster. I say no to that and he goes for the computer. Any issues with this? Possibly.
Now the events of the other day were what really put me over the edge and made me really annoyed with this whole video game thing.
Hayden is quietly playing the DS, after a good long break from it I might add, when suddenly, I hear blood chilling screaming. I was expecting to see some one ripping his limbs off one by one or at the very least blood every where.
It is was so terrible sounding that I high-tailed it into the room. Now you must understand, I usually don't stop what I am doing for screaming. There is always some one crying or screaming about one thing or another. But this scream, well it made me stop.
But what do I find to cause of this screaming? It was the fact that the batteries were dead on the DS. Dead batteries on the video game, I tell you. Oh the horror!
Now if that was not bad enough just a few hours later, Hayden was up in his room playing the DS (he moved up there to escape the babies). But when I called him down for snack, he had different pants on. It took me a minute to notice and when I did, I questioned him.
Me: Hayden, Why do you have different pants on?
Hayden: I had a little accident.
Me: What? Where?
Hayden: In my room while I was playing Princess Peach (aka the DS).
I run up stairs to check things out and what I find is just mind blowing. I find his soaking wet pants and underwear in the hamper (good place, I know) and two puddles on the floor from where Hayden stood up and let the urine run down his pant legs onto the floor.
Me: HAYDEN!!! Did you just stand here and pee on the floor because you were playing the DS? We DO NOT pee on the floor! You need to go pee in the potty! If you have to go pee, you need to STOP playing and go. You can't just stand up and PEE!
Hayden: But Mom.... I told the truth.
What is a mother to do? Blame Daddy, of course. But Jeff doesn't really understand why because as he so lovingly pointed out, he has never just peed while playing video games. Stay up all night and then went to work the next day, yes but never just stood up and peed.
*sigh*

Just another Wordful Wednesday Post. Hosted by Angie.

Oh my gosh. The picture is So unbelievably cute. But....I'd blame daddy too. It's funny that he was so involved playing he couldn't be bothered using the can....yet, it's kinda not. :) I don't drop everything and run when one cries either. Might be a good idea though. I'd be a lot more active. he eh.
too funny and I ahve that same issue in my house. once one tear or groan or grumble or growl is heard over a video game (Wii, Leapster, PS2, computer) - done - no more for the day!
That's funny.. I fear it one day in my own home! I love that picture..
Oh no. You are stuffed. I can see it coming here at our place too, Sonny will get an iPod Touch for his birthday in March to stop him running down the batteries on Daddy's iPhone, and the same thing is going to happen here for sure.
And the Daddys are truly to blame, even if they've never just stood up and peed while playing games.
I was going to say that the natural course of things is for the batteries to run flat and then the kid spends some down-time while they charge. But I forgot, this too can escalate into a MAJOR INCIDENT.
You are truly stuffed. And for that matter, so am I.
Oh I had a similar little problem but with watching DVD's - so we made a rule - only from wake-up time to going to school time on weekdays - no more! That's it. No arguments. And only one on weekend days (you can do, say half an hour or an hour) and that is it! There was some crying and tantrums for a week, but after that, the rules are established and that is it. Worked like a charm - we all know them and keep to them.
Oh no! That is all I can say. I guess I better start paying attenttion to what Nico likes to do that Daddy also likes to do! So far it's only watching TV, but that wouldn't be a great place to have that happen either.
that story's a keeper!!!
The picture just says it all! I love those mini me pictures.
Sweet...so so sweet.
My W W is about a family movie I just watched again, and found something in it that I'd never seen before...can you see what I saw? Come on over for a visit...happy Wednesday wishes to you.
I am so sorry that I am sitting here chuckling and nodding... My 7 year old daughter has become OBSESSED with her DS! She LOVES it... she plays it constantly and talks about the games when she isn't playing it. I blame her daddy too... he's a video game junkie as well!! LOL THe picture you have up is adorable! :) Thanks for sharing and making me feel like I am not so alone!! :)
(come visit my blog too!! :) )

oh Jen.....I feel your pain, My Son is like that about TV. I once witnessed him whip his stuff out and pee on the carpet in the family room to keep from missing any part of the movie he was watching. Good luck to you....you are going to need it.
(chucking to myself)
I totally feel your pain. This is a computer/gaming era we are raising these boys in, and it's tough to find a compromise when even the big boys can't.
I would definitely draw the line at peeing on the floor. The nice thing about electronics is they hate when you take them away. You hold the power in your hands!
Oh my. Now that IS a problem. My son loves to play video games, too. But he has never stood there and peed while he played. I guess I should thank God for that. :)
Oh, my! Too funny! There are times I wish I didn't have to break from blogging to pee... like if I could have a catheter. :)
Luckily, I don't have that problem, YET! My hubby isn't into video games, but my kids may get into it, but not as of right now.
BUT...my son has peed on the floor cuz he was too busy playing his trains or pirates...so I feel you on that one!
I think it is natural to kids to forget themselves while engrossed in an activity. The same thing happens with my youngest. I just took it away until she earned it back.
Wow. I'm not sure what to say to that. I can totally see a kid thinking that. Does he not know how to pause it?
I understand. Sadly, I understand.
I like it when the games get "lost". Don't know HOW they got onto the top shelf of the china cabinet. Strange, isn't it?
We had a week of NO video games and also a broken tv.
It. Was. Heaven.
He told the TRUTH, Jen. Cut him slack. Please.
And tell him the president of his fan club is doing her duties well. Yes, sir.
Sounds like it might be time for the DS, Leapster and computer time to go into time out for a week.
Hayden looks exactly like you hubby. I just hope he takes the time to pee while gaming. :)
Computer World!
Wish this didn't sound so familiar.
Oh no, now that's a new video-game low. We had separation issues with taking away the DS and now, my oldest has to "earn" his chances to play it. By helping us clean or whatever. Rationing the video games.
I just bought the DS for my son's birthday this weekend. Yikes!
hahaha! oh my gosh, jen, this post is just too much. first of all, the picture is adorable. second, those blood curdling screams about something so tiny reminds me of lydia. she still does it from time to time and i think something is horribly wrong and all that i find is a mismatched sock or something equally silly. and last, you had me laughing out loud about your husband's argument to the blame...
My son is like that with his DS also. He got a Didj for Christmas so he has to play it through the week. The DS is for weekends only. Educational is better than nothing, in my opinion. :) He used to have those accidents when he was playing with his trains. He would have a whole storyline going and wouldn't want to get up and go to the bathroom. I guess he was afraid the story would disappear. :)
I love the pic and the blood curdling scream is something that has happened at my house, too. It's always something like that, dead batteries, missing train or missed TV show.
Hilarious! My son has done the bloodcurdling scream over batteries too! Hayden is a super cutie!
This is so hilarious!! I would totally blame the hubby too :) My hubby has a huge addiction to video games. I so hope my girls do not get his habit!!
Yes, I to0, have had to change some undies cause my nephew didnt want to stop playing his xbox either! I am dumbfounded by this addiction. Of course, I can say I have held it in while I was blogging...lol
That's often what I come home to after being out...all the boys with their noses in those things. Too cute!!
sorry, but that's a cute picture!
Oh goodness that's never happened in my house. Oh wait it has! LOL! What do ya do?! Thanks for stopping by my blog :)
shut up!! brooke just did the same thing last week playing her leapster!! crazy kid!
Great picture!
Gotta love the kid's logic, though. He told the truth, Mom!
Hey Jen-- thanks so much for checking out my site. I am now following yours. i love your layout and I love that you have triplets too. Looking forward to reading some of your older posts and learning more about you and your family
heather mott
What a stinker! My son does that too, it's like they are just too into what they are doing and just cant hold it any longer!
My youngest used to be that way. Ack.
He's been taking lessons from Graham... sorry...
Doesn't he know he can take it with him to the bathroom? ; ) Sorry that happened. I would say maybe he was a little TOO distracted! Cute picture though...
LOL "BLAME DADDY" is our family motto. BTW I added more to the Aloha give away and the Grand Finale is coming soon!;)
We got 3 DS for the girls for xmas this year and I think it is like kiddy crack! I can't believe how hard it is to get them away from it! I must be the male chromosome that the kids get this from:)
Ok, can't help but giggle.
What a boy! LOL
LOve the shot of them together :)
Happy WW!
i'm so sorry that i'm laughing at your pee story!!! that is SO my life!!
i am a WoW widow and since the arrival of the wii at our house (on loan from the inlaws), i am also childless (or so it feels).
we have a leapster, a psp, a ps2, and a ds. AND THEY ARE STILL BORED!!!
OMG that is too funny.
Definitely daddy's fault.
And. He. Told. The. Truth. (which of course is the only important thing).
Thanks for sharing.
How do you deal with that? They do something wrong, but tell the truth. Conundrums.
That picture is priceless!!!
My son Matthew is dying for a DS. Have a great night.
Hate to say how common this "accident" scene is... but even some of my 2nd and 3rd graders get a little too caught up in their games...
Yikes! Hopefully he learned something from that! My 5 yr old would play the Wii or the 360 or on treehouse.com all day & night if I let him...but I'm an evil mom just like you who *gasp* sometimes says no!! ;)
hmmmm...we haven't introduced the girls to anything electronic yet. And your post reminded me why!!
LOL--boys and their toys--why stop to go to the bathroom when your're in the middle of a game!?!
Great pic!!
LOL, I have a pile of kids myself, although they were all singles I still had four in four years (and nine mo.)
We have the leapster and those arcade games that plug into the TV. If we get a DS it will be MINE!!! And I will stop to pee. LOL. They do have pause buttons right?
Great post/blog. You are very funny :-)
OMG how amusing. I'm sorry, but that just cracked me right up!
Savannah is 15 months. And ever since she could lift it, she walks up to us on the computer with her own play keyboard and mouse so she can sit on our lap and do what we do lol.
Course, she's still in nappies!
This was a great post, and I am struggling with my 4-year-old on this issue. We kind of had the same progression...computer games for kids, Leapster, DS but now we are playing Lego games on the PS3. (Don't go there ... you'll thank me.) I'm really questioning whether this is good or bad. On the plus side, I think they learn an awful lot and sure will be teahnology savvy. And getting a break is worth its weight in gold. But I feel like it is bad for them too. I guess balance is the key ... he can play the games but he has to go outside and do other things too.
My kids got kid cameras for Christmas santa thought would be a great hit since the kids are constantly wanting to use my camera. Turns out the cameras also have video games on them (dumb!!! if I had wanted video games I would've bought a Nintendo not a camera) and they haven't taken a single picture and yet play the video games all the time. Arg!!!!
