Operation Bottle Removal is Done

To read the Operation Bottle story from the beginning, go here.

So this afternoon, we did it. We packed all the bottles away. For most of the week, I had been talking to the babies about the fact that today the bottles were going to go away.

After their nap, I got out all the bottles, we 'played' with them for a little while and then I told them that we had to say 'Bye Bye' to the bottles and pack them away in a box because they were big boys and girl now and don't need a bottle any more.

The babies were actually excited about this. They seems to like gathering them all up and putting them away. Once the box was full and closed tight, and as I wiped away a quick tear from the eye, that was that.

The bottles are gone. Done.

I was expecting some protesting after their bath when they usually get the bottle but there was none. We filled sippy cups with milk, warmed them slightly, and they took to the milk cups like a fish to water.

It was no big deal.

Hopefully, this is not just beginner's luck. Hopefully, it will continue. It will be interesting to see what happens later when they wake up for a bottle. Who knows, maybe just maybe they won't wake up at all. But that might be pushing my luck a little too much.

*************************************************

I am glad it went well, I really am. I didn't really want there to be a big mess of crying and tears but couldn't they just have had one tear? Well, one tear other than mine. I mean the fact that there were none just shows yet again, how big they are getting. They are so not babies any more but they will always be my babies.

*sniffle, sniffle*

Awwww...I love the three photos. Just makes you realize how fast time goes!

And my son was the same way with his bottle. I got all geared up for a big struggle and then he could have cared less. He just wanted to get something to drink and didn't care if it was a bottle or not.

Same thing with the pacifier believe it or not.

: )

It's like a little bit of their innocence is gone when they graduate from the bottle. I let my youngest hold onto the bottle way longer than healthy because I didn't want to NOT ever have a baby again! It is a sad thing!

Hooray they did not protest it either.

Have a great day!

Good for you!

And sad for you (but still good). How hard is this?!? I'm a couple years ahead of you and I don't have triplets (i'm the one with 4 -2+ identical twins) but I'm a couple years ahead of you... it just keeps zooming along at rocket speed. The serious upside to all of this? Look at the wonderful kids you have!!

What great photos of how they've grown!!

I guess you could think of the sippy cup as a graduated bottle? Or a toddler bottle?

That's so great that they did fab with it!

Jen - if they're still wearing one-piece jammies, you can still consider them babies. ;o)

I'm impressed! Smoothly done, Jen. And I think a lot of these milestones are harder on mommies than the babies. :o)

I know exactly what you mean about not being your babies anymore. It's so hard, but so wonderful to watch them as they grow. Yay for smooth Operation Bottle Removal!

i'm not gonna lie, i'm a little sad. i'm glad the operation went well, but i have to say, i don't want to give up the sofie's bottle yet...and i don't have to, right??? i mean, all the other 3 were done by 1, but she's the last one and she's 14 months...and, well....you know.

They are absolutely precious! Good job putting bottles away! I know that's hard. Your babies are growing up!

I am so happy all went well. I too was amazed they way Aidan gave up his binkie...he loved it SO much but there were NO tears when we "gave them to the babies" of the world who needed binkies. They just love to surprise us! Just when we think we know them I tell ya....

Glad it went so well. Ours was also very easy. I think the longer you leave it, the more attached to it they become.

Oh Jen - I love this post. My baby is 20 months and since he is my last baby I am being lazy with bottle removal. But I am slowly getting rid of "ba ba" time. Now, can you give me any advice on how to get him off my boobs????

:-)
