One of the magical things about having kids is experiencing the world through their eyes.
We went to the zoo the other day. This is not the first time that we have been to the zoo. It is not even the first time that the babies have been to the zoo.
But it was the first time that the babies have been as toddlers.
Toddlers who can verbalize their likes and dislikes.
Toddlers who can express their excitement.
It was so neat to watch the babies, especially Quinn and Jake, in the zoo.
Animals are a very big thing in our house.
I wish that I could have recorded Jake and Quinn's expression when they first saw the zoo and discovered what it was with those toddler eyes.
The wonder and amazement was truly priceless.
Each new habitat brought out pure joy.
Each new animal brought squeals of delight.
And the petting zoo.
Oh, the wonder of the petting zoo.

I was kind of nervous that the zoo would not go over well with the kids. I thought it was just one of those places that we had been to before.
Just another one of those ideas that you get as a Mom that don't go exactly as planned.
But boy, was I wrong.
The zoo was a huge hit.
But even though the kids had an awesome time, I think that I had an even better time.
Because I got to see the zoo for the first time too.
All through my three toddlers.

It's so fun "re-discovering" the world with them! It makes you really appreciate the simple things and reminds you of what is really important in life!
I bet that was alot of fun.
I sooooooo understand what youre talking about! Sometimes the places that you think will be boring turn out the best because your kids have so much fun!
It's so fun seeing things from their point of view:) I'm glad it turned out well.
Hugs, Sandy
Glad you had such a fun trip to the zoo! I love the pictures.
I took a trip to the zoo a couple weeks ago and had the best time in years! No babies to worry about hunger or naps. My 2-yr old absolutely loved it and keeping him well-snacked, and hydrated - we loved every stop we made~!
Glad it was a fun trip! One of those great Mommy moments!
Yeah! I love the zoo!
Isn't this the best? Seeing the world through the fresh eyes of your children is magical and never fails to remind me of the beauty that surrounds me, but that I often take for granted...
Oh yes, I love taking toddlers to the zoo. WOW, when they see how big the elephants are...or try to mimic the sounds. Man our 3 year old always cracks us up.
Thanks for visiting my blog last week. I'm pregnant and it's got me down, so I'm just now visiting your blog. It's really pretty!
Dude...bring 'em here. Some close friends own a goat farm...my father-in-law has cattle...and we have deer, fox, turkeys, groundhogs, rabbits, snakes, coyotes, and a bojillion birds. It's a veritable zoo 'round here. And it's FREE!
Except for the gas it would take y'all to drive down here. And the wine you'd need after such a trip. But I'd supply the wine. And chocolate cake. Amen.
it's so great to see how our lives change with them growing up...love it!
I think Maggie would go to the zoo every day if we would take her.
I completely forgot that Grand Rapids had a zoo! Looks like the kids had a wonderful time!
Kids and the zoo:-) They just go together!
Oh yes, the zoo is so much fun. We also had a recent trip and I am happy to report it was well enjoyed.
my kids love the zoo too!
That is so sweet...it is fun to "re-discover" and have those special moments with your children
What a wonderful experience! For all of you! We tried the zoo last year and Sophie was like, eh, not so much. I think we'll have more success this year.
I love watching my son discover the world.
It is one of my favorite things about being a mom.
I love the zoo, especially when I go with Gabe.
Great pictures! Glad you had so much fun!
Aw--that's great! I love seeing things through my kids eyes! And you're right--petting zoos are the best!!
PS--Are you going to BlogHer?
What a sweet post. I know exactly what you mean about experiencing things again through our kiddos.
Let me just say how INCREDIBLY IMPRESSED I am at the things that you still do, even though you have 4 young kids. I would be tempted to lay on the couch all day! Good for you!
I can't wait to take the girls to the zoo again this year! We took them last year when they were about 14 months old, and they liked it, but I'm sure it will be even more fun this year!
I love going to the zoo for that exact reason. Especially Kainoa is fun to watch...I caved and bought a membership so that we can go whenever we want. It's expensive!
how wonderful!!! i love the zoo!!!!
I have yet to brave the zoo yet with all 4 kids but this summer I think they'd really enjoy going! They may have to lock me up in a cage with the monkeys though afterwards.
Glad you all had a fun!!! It is amazing to see the world through your children's eyes! The other day my kids found a ladybug in the grass and they must have stood there for at least 20 minutes just watching it. They were completely intrigued. It actually made me a little teary-eyed!
That is so sweet! My parents always take our kids to do all this sort of fun stuff (so the hubby & I can have alone time)--maybe we should re-think our choices next go-around. What a great experience!
I love the zoo and I've definately passed that on to my boys.
The babies are getting so big!
What a sweet post. We should all take the perspective of a toddler each day!
This is absolutely THE best. It's amazing how things we've seen our whole lives take on a whole new meaning when seen through the eyes of our children.
Thanks for the reminder that we should be trying to enjoy our day to day activities through the eyes of our little ones. We can't take for granted their natural enthusiasm for life and all it holds.
Great photos, too, as always. Darling children!
So true!! I've been really trying this year to really be PRESENT with my kids and enjoy each moment with them - not to stress out - and to just have fun! I have just 10 days left of school and can't wait for the summer to spend with them!!! We had a blast last summer and I know this year will be even better!
I can't believe we missed you at the zoo! The Budgie Birds were a HUGE hit with Aidan. We should go together some time this summer!
how fun! i cannot wait to take my little ones this summer!
Glad it was an enjoyable day out :)
I ahould take my kids to the zoo!
Believe it or not, I still enjoy seeing my teens' reactions when we go special places. Okay, most of their reactions. :-)
Love your pix!
How wonderful and I certainly know what you mean! I just love experiencing things again and again in the eyes of my children. (maybe it's why i keep adding to the family??? LOL)
Adorable photos!
I am so so so excited for Michael's first visit to the zoo this year - absolutely ecstatic!
My girls LOVE the zoo - we try to go to one on every single vacation!
We took our 22 month old daughter to the zoo over Memorial Day weekend. Although we took her there months ago, it was like the first time for her. She's been saying "zoo" several times a day now, because she wants to go back so much.
I love the photos you posted!
I LOVE going to the zoo, for myself and Tristan. If I could have a zoo in the backyard I would, and just have someone else to take care of the mess.
I think the zoo is one of the greatest kid friendly places we have. I can't wait to take my son some day.
Can I just say that this is EXACTLY the reason I am so excited to take my kids to Disneyland! Not that we have a trip planned anytime soon....I just really want to! To see the magic again.
