Can You Say Addicted?

In this house, we are addicted to electronics. Daddy has is World of Warcraft. Mommy has her blog and Twitter and it is only natural that the children follow in these ways. And let me just say, that Hayden has totally taken this to heart.

That kid has sit and play either computer, the Leapster, or the DS for hours and hours. He could play all day if he was allowed. The first words out of his mouth in the morning are, "Can I play the DS?" and the last thing he asks before bed is, "Can I play the DS?" He can't even stop playing to get his butt wiped.

This can be maddening at times. While he is playing, he does not listen or respond to questions. He is like a blob just staring at that stupid game.

So last week, when Hayden left the DS in the middle of the floor after I had repeatedly asked him to put it up so that the babies would not take it and one of the babies took it and now we can't find it. I was sad that his favorite toy was lost. I even helped, him look for it. But honestly, I am happy that the thing is gone.

Well, I was happy. Now after a week of him following me around like a lost puppy, whining at me about he is bored and has nothing to do. I just want the damn thing back so that the whinning will stop and he will leave me alone (terrible I know).

Someimes my kids overbalance at this moment, and I have to wipe the wall too.

Oh boy. I am so sorry. Nat would be the ABSOLUTE SAME with a DS. We Neeeearly got him one for his birthday, but decided against it. Daddy's iPhone gets a HUGE workout - between dawn and when we get up and again on Sunday mornings at church. Cos we've got is SO together over here, oh yes indeedy.

PS I told Nat all about this, and his hot tip is that "Quinn took it."

For sure!! Poor Hayden.. Poor Jen.. You gotta hate it and you gotta love it! One thing's for dang sure ~ what happened to just plain playing outside???

I use the WII as a reward and a punishment ~ no matter what though.. when it is on ~ I totally disappear in their world!!

Hilarious! Sad that I could take the exact same pic of either of my two oldest any day of the week. I seriously have to hide that thing to keep them from begging to play with it.

Excellent photo!

I guess we all need a little escape.

It is hard to strike a balance with the electronics.

Hello, Hayden's boo-tay! How I love thee...

My kids don't even know what a DS is. It's gonna stay that way.

p.s. Saw your tweet about buying plane tickets. We bought ours last week, too. We are SO gonna rock it out in October.

I'm almost thinking of buying my kids the DS, mainly because right now they each have a backpack of Thomas the Trains or race cars that weigh about 20lbs each that HAVE to go everywhere with us. At least I can just throw these in my purse:)

That is hysterical. And so totally me!

I thought you were going to say YOU hid the DS! We're technojunkies around here, too. So far, the Bean is too small to get in on the action, but sometimes she will wander off and I will find her sitting at the computer, pounding away at the keyboard. It's only a matter of time, I fear.

Now that is a classic picture!

That's quite the telling picture!

But it's worth it to have him learn the lesson of consequences! (I probably would have hidden the thing myself.)

I'm not teaching Aidan about such things...he'll find out about those in school. Until then he can play with bugs outside!

That picture is awesome. Video games will always be a great baby sitter.

He is going to be SO mad at you for that picture in a few years! I LOVE it! I hope that you find the toy soon so that I get some time to yourself. I don't think it is bad to wish for your child to leave you alone at all!

Love the picture!

My hubby is addicted to WOW too. I used to be until Blogging took over my life (and my Mother in Law started playing).

That is just too, too precious!

For me, the key word in this post was "lost." It could have many meanings. For example, one might explain the disappearance of the DS as unplanned, but engineered.

However, surely that could not be the case...

That is a great picture! I hope you find the game soon.

I know this of which you speak. Our DS's go everywhere and heaven forbid we should lose one.

This is too funny. I'm scared to show my husband this picture...he might get some ideas as he always has his DS in the bathroom. LOL!

This hit close to home! We are electronic junkies too! Both HH and I played WOW for 2 years non-stop. Now our son can't see our iPhones without screaching for them. We are doomed.

That pose is absolutely hilarious. Is he fresh off the potty?

The picture is priceless!!

Make sure you get an R4 card (google it) for your DS so you can download games. The card is $50 but once you have the card the games are free... I have something like 300 games on mine. PRICELESS!

That picture is hilarious!! lol. What is up with boys/men and their lack of concentration on anything other than video games or TV?? It's crazy.

laughing my butt off over that picture! hilarious!

We have a DS too! Sometimes I wish Kyle played it more than he does. But then I would probably have the same complaints you do. Truth is, since we got Super Mario Bros for it....Daddy is the one who won't listen or answer questions because he won't stop playing it.

BTW - look at you getting 36 comments at a rip! - good for you. I am lucky is I get 6.

So far I'm glad Graham's fine motor skills still suck enough that he can't use one of those... I know there will come a day when he has one permanently attached to his hands....

What a crack up in the bathroom!

That picture is too funny! Did he even notice you were taking a picture??

Wow...I thought my kid has it bad. He does stop long enough for going to the bathroom...but JUST in time!

Last night I was asking T what his favorite things to do were and he said, "jumping, running, playing video games." I go back and forth between feeling really anxious about it and remembering that the world of computers are here to stay. I want him to get plenty of outside time and creative time, but I also like that the computer is so intuitive for him.

My son got addicted to his Game Boy when he was about 4. There were times when I had to put it away for awhile.

Of course, here I sit, at 3:30 a.m., blogging. Can't sleep and this is what I turn to. Argh.

Heather said...

Yep, right with you on this one.

Now we have two computers, two DS's, one DSi, one (lost) gameboy, one gamecube, a Wii, a Playstation2...

My kids are so deprived.

I'm surprised our husbands haven't found each other in WOW yet.
