Maybe I Should Get It While Its Hot?

I don't know many people who don't start their day with a cup of coffee. If you can, you are much better than I . But in the morning after I get the kids out of bed, my feet walk right to the coffee marker.

I get my pot brewing before I get juice and milk for the kids. Even though they protest this, this is just how it has to be.

I am so dependent on coffee that if I don't have at least one cup with in a couple minutes of waking, I have a raging headache and I am a complete bear. And yes, I even growl.

I know that this probably means that I am way to addicted to the stuff but right now that is fine with me. Coffee just makes me happy. Even the smell of it puts a smile on my face.

The kids know how I feel about this as they often say, "Mommy. Coffee. Good."

When Jake, Quinn and Claire were babies, I got used to drinking cold or luke-warm coffee. They were much more demanding about that first am bottle then they are now about that first cup of milk/juice. So all I was able to do was smell the coffee and pour myself a cup.

I still have this routine today. I pour my cup and then go about making breakfast and what not. I come back and take a sip, but for the most part my cup of coffee just sits there, getting to the perfect temperature for me to gulp it down.

Well, apparently my cup of coffee has become tempting to other people in this house. I guess I should have known this. It is a big cup of liquid that I love. It was bound to happen that some one should check it out.

But that doesn't mean that the other morning when I came into the kitchen to find it flooded with coffee, I didn't cry a little on the inside.

I was out of the kitchen doing something but when I walked back into the kitchen, I found Quinn putting my cup in the sink while standing on a chair in the middle of a coffee lake.

Coffee was everywhere. There was a pool on the cupboard. It was dripping down the cupboards. And of course the lake on the floor.

I began to scold Quinn, telling him that it was naughty to play with mommy's coffee. But in the middle of my scolding, he interrupted me saying, "Coffee wet. Oh no!"

"Yes, Quinn. Oh no is right," I continued on.

"No, no. I don't know." Quinn said back to me as he shrugged his shoulders and ran out of the room.

I was in no mood to run after him, my coffee was all over the floor and the pot did not have enough left in it for another cup. I was sad. I was broken hearted. I didn't know what to do. But then Quinn came back into the room.

"Oh No!"Quinn said as he stepped out of the way to reveal Jake. Jake stood there with his head down, eyes glued to the floor. I knew something was not right because Jake was not going to look up at me.

After a moment or two, looked up at me with those big blue eyes and said, "Wet" as he pointed to this shirt. Then I saw him and realized why he had his eyes glued to the floor. He was soaked to the skin with coffee.

Apparently, the coffee did not just spill all over the kitchen but also on the person who did the spilling. I had blamed the wrong person and Quinn was going to make darn sure that I knew it.

I learned two things that morning: I need to get a cup with a lid and even though they are triplets, they will throw each other to the wolves when blamed for something the other one did.

Oh Quinn! You little sweeties always make me smile. Sorry Mommy about your coffee.

i need my morning coffee, too. TWICE!!

If you DIDN'T drink coffee, I would think there was something wrong.

A little advice - get a programmable coffee pot, the nectar will brew itself and await patiently as you gently wake the children. Would anyone else in your life do that for you? OK, maybe I'm having an affair with my Mr. Coffee.

And travel mugs. Lots and lots of travel mugs.

I definitely hear you on the coffee, I'm pretty much not even human before that first cup!

Omg! I could picture the coffee and the hiding triplet exactly. Good thing he didn't get burned!

Uh oh. My cup has a lid & I'm hoping Trevor knows better than to touch Mommy's coffee. I've tried to teach him...Mommy without coffee is not a good thing...

I think because WE love coffee so much, it becomes such a temptation to the kids. It must be awesome if we fuss about it so much, they think.

Coffee sippy cups? Hm, you might be onto something there.

I love that Quinnn was not going to take the blame!

That is such a cute story. I love how he knew enough to transfer the blame to the real criminal.

Hahaha that is adorable. I'm impressed with his elaborate communication too!

I do not like coffee... I like the smell of brewing coffee, but not the taste of it!

I start my day with an ice-cold Coke. Ahhhhh... bliss.

NOOOOOO! Not the coffee!

I just asked the question on twitter this morning: how much is too much coffee. Because I am finishing my 3 cups by 9am and I'm left wanting more.

Splurg on the programmable coffee maker. We love ours so much that even when it broke, the replacement couldn't hold up and Rocky fixed the original :)

Hopefully, someday you'll be able to look back at this and laugh.

Coffee is a definite must. Whenever I skip it I just don't feel right.

Let the tattletail-ing begin!

I tried that "no coffee in the morning" thing. Once.

I've never been a coffee drinker, but as of late, I'm wondering why. I could use some caffine to get going in the AM :)

I'm sure other thoughts (or words) were running through your head, but all I can do it laugh! What a funny crew you have.

My family knows not to speak to me until I have my cup of tea. :)
Now my liitle guy wants his own tea in the morning too so he gets a splash in a cup of milk.

My two youngest are always asking for coffee too! I have it heavily sugared, I think that is why.

I'm just so relieved. I had this horrid feeling this was going to end with someone burned by the hot coffee... Yay, for erroneous gut feelings!!

And a travel mug is DEFINITELY in order!

my 2yo loves to smell my coffee... thinks it's awesome. haha!

It makes me laugh that he completely threw him under the bus! Poor Quinn was just trying to help you clean up...that's the last time! HAHA!! I love my coffee too. But I tend to drink much less when the weather gets hot...unless I'm at work.

OMG!!!!! I thought I was the only one who had multiples who would throw each other to the wolves if blamed for something they didn't do. Even my 2-yr olds are doing that. "Garrett did you poop?"..."No, Landon pooped". It's always the other guy!

I used to be into coffee but as of lately, I never seem to find the time in the morning to make it. I could fill the coffee maker at night to let it start in the morning but at night I'm even too tired to do that.

KatBouska said...

Yes, your very own sippy cup, that's exactly what you need. Poor Quinn...I hope you apologized to him dammit. ;)

I don't know about you but I get furious when ANY liquid is spilled all over. You have to stop everything and clean something that should not be there to be cleaned. I HATE IT!

And. Ahem. I don't drink coffee. Hate the stuff actually. I must be some kind of angelic being sculpted by the hands of the great Lor Our Father Himself...because I don't need it and I don't want it and I'm pretty sure that makes me better than 90% of the bloggers out there.

Just sayin.

Eek.

I actually don't like coffee. I wish I did because I imagine I'd have more energy. But I've never aquired a taste for it. I do love the smell though.

I usually have a glass of diet coke with lunch for my pick-me-up. Then I have another soda with dinner.

My husband also cant function without his morning coffee!

And I think its classic how kids are quick to "dob" on each other. My two do it all the time!

oh no, dimed him out...

good for him! :)

LOL! oops, not so funny when momma doesn't get to enjoy that cuppa!

With two naughty cats and a toddler, we don't leave any glasses with anything in them anywhere they can get to them. After cleaning up a hundred kajillion messes, I drink out of cups with lids.

So cute! My Little Man does this with my tea! He's obsessed with it! As soon as he sees it he runs over to me and starts asking: "Tea? Is it hhhhooootttt?"

Jill said...

I'll admit that I'd probably cry more that the coffee spilled and there was none left rather than the fact that one of my munchkins spilled it.

Glad to hear nobody got hurt in the spilling of the coffee. :)

"Oh No"

I've never acquired a taste for it, but watch out if I miss my smoothie... And chocolate. Chocolate get's me through the afternoon.

Oh Jen, I am so a coffee addict as well. You get these cups with the lids that even keep your coffee warm - how about that?

Coffee will stunt your growth anyhow.

Of course, I'm 4'9" tall and I hate coffee and so does my 5'3" tall mom so what do I know? :-)

I'm just glad the little one's didn't burn themselves. That could have been very scary!

I don't drink coffee. Michael doesn't either. So we don't own a coffee maker. I have to be sure to let our guests know in advance :-) And I had never had Starbucks until this winter when I discovered the salted caramel hot chocolate...

FUNNY! on a few levels. As I sit here drinking my iced coffee at work since it's too hot to have hot coffee these days. And don't feel bad, they say that as long as you have just 2-3 cups of coffee a day then it's a good thing. It keeps us alert and motivated to start the day, and how can that be bad?!?!

Caitlin said...

Oh no! That is hilarious!! I don't know how you will ever be able to nail down who did what pretty soon!

I am the same way about my coffee. In fact, I start it before I even get poor crying Joseph out of his crib. Bad mommy!
