A Birthday, Its All Fun Until Someone Cries

In this house, there is a complete love affair with Nemo and all things Nemo.

We, well the kids, watch Nemo multiple times a day.
So it was only fitting that the theme of
Quinn, Jake and Claire's 2nd Birthday be
Nemo.

Including a Nemo cake, made lovingly by Daddy.

It was a HUGE hit!
Especially with Jake, who has the biggest love for all things Nemo.

Not only was it fun to look at but it was also yummy to eat.

But even with all this yummy cake eating going on
there was a little crisis that took place.
You see, sometimes it is very difficult to be the oldest.
Especially when you used to be the one and only and now you are one of four.
It is hard when as the oldest you are used to being the center of attention.
It is hard to watch everyone else open presents, when there are none for you.
It is hard to understand why it can't just be your birthday today too.

It is so hard that sometimes you just need to cry.
It wasn't his party but he sure did cry.

But don't worry everything ended up all good in the end.
Because little 2 year old are not so good at ripping open presents
and need 'help' from their big brother.

First of all, girl, your blog title made my laugh out loud! With 7 kids, I can honestly feel your pain! No multiples here, but they all look alike. So I feel like I've given birth to the same baby seven times in 14 years!

And may I be the first to admit that Finding Nemo is one of my favorite movies of. all. TIME! I bought it for me, uh. . I mean, the kids years ago. Nemo is cute, but Dory rocks the house!

Happy Birthday to your lovely brood!

Oh, what a lovely post! I am in AWE of Jeff - I couldn't make a Nemo cake! Well done Jeff. David and I oohed and aahed over the pics of the triplets, then we simultaneously went, "Awwww..." in sympathy as we saw poor Hayden mourning that it wasn't his birthday too. Hope it was a wonderful day for all.

Happy birthday kids! Hope your year will be blessed beyond words! And I know what you mean Jenn - I often feel a pang at my heart for my firstborn too, and poor Hayden has an extra one to deal with! I still think the two of them will make a great couple someday - maybe we must do some old fashioned arrangement some day!You know the world just keeps getting smaller.

That cake was SO COOL! I am very impressed that your husband MADE it!
Poor Hayden, I felt so sorry for him. A tough lesson to learn, I'm sure. But, hopefully one that will get easier each year?..

Daddy did a GREAT job on the cake!!

Later on he will realize it's better not sharing your big day with three other siblings...

Great blog, and prodigiously talented cake-making husband. Ours is 7 weeks, guess I better brush up my baking skills while I can :o)

Oh poor little man! I bet it is hard to have your 3 siblings have a birthday and not you!

I guess that's one good thing about my kids being so close together. I just hope the baby cooks until after Moose's birthday.

Wow your hubby can bake and frost a mean cake!
Maybe cause my sister and I were super cool or super spoiled brats, either one, my parents always gave both of us one present to open before whoever's b-day party it was. This way the non b-day girl didn't feel left out but didn't take away from the b-day girls special day.

Happy Birthday Babies!!
Awesome cake!
Poor Hayden. I'm glad he didn't let that wreck his day. And I bet he got some new toys to play with out of it, too :)
I hope you had a fun party and that it was not stressful! Have a great week.

What an awesome cake. Whoohoo to daddy-o!

I could see why it is sad to have 3 others in the house having a celebration. My kids get upset when the other one has a b-day.

Poor little guy.

But it looks like a great birthday celebration!!!

I can understand how that could be difficult for him. I'm sure next year he will feel better about it.
My mother-inlaw thought it would be nice to give my oldest a present on his sister's first birthday, so he wouldn't feel left out. I had to put a stop to it because I could see that making problems in the future. He had to learn that everybody gets one day that is all about them and his day would come.

I am so impressed that Jeff made the cake. In fact, floored would be a better description. I am pretty sure Neil wouldn't even be able to buy all of the ingredients correctly.

Sounds like a great party!

It looks like I'm getting more credit than I deserve here. While following the directions on a box of cake mix is indeed within my skill set, I did no baking this weekend. Jen was kind enough to bake the cakes while I was at work on Friday, and when I started assembly, it more closely resembled a construction/art project than a baking exercise.

That being said, I did do all the decoration, from the initial frosting through the stripes and eyes. Afterwards, I went out in the woods to belch, shoot animals and otherwise reclaim my manhood.

I figure it's pretty much universally understood that I'm made of 100% natural awesome, but I want to make sure I'm only getting the "points" I deserve. Please subtract accordingly.

Even before I was a mother, I knew who Nemo was! I have 4 1/2 year old neice...And boy o boy was she spoiled for 2 years by everyone. Now with 3 more kids added to the bunch, she goes off to cry sometimes....but "auntie" is still there to offer her some lovin' and support. Being the mother of, am so happy I only do this at family events. Thank God! Glad your lil man found he was a big help to his lil syblings! :) Great Post and Photo's too! :D

Is your husband taking orders?? Because Kainoa has a birthday coming up soon....

And I love that while Hayden was having a hard time, you had the mindset to grab your camera. First things first.

I love that I get to watch your little ones grow up on your blog...you better not ever stop!

Oh what a lovely cake and such lovely children! I am stopping by from SITS and so glad I did. (My "baby girl" is now 15, and I made a mean Tigger cake for her when she was 7. Well, Tigger wasn't mean, but the cake was!)
