Yet Another First Day of School Post, but This One is the Best Yet

So here he is, my big Kindergartener.

The picture is blurry because he could not stop jumping up and down with excitement.
He was more than ready to go.

Riding the bus was awesome.
No, sweat. He entered it like he had been riding for years.
Mommy on the other hand, I had all the nerves for both of us.
I held back my tears as he bounced up the steps and I tried not to vomit as the bus pulled away, carrying my baby off to all kinds of new adventures.

He was so excited getting off the bus, he forgot about his backpack.
I guess he couldn't wait to tell me all about his day.

Hayden: "Mom, Mom! Guess what? I did a Barbie puzzle!"

Me: "Thats awesome. Did you learn anything?"

Hayden: "Yeah!"

Me: "What? What? Tell be about what you learned."

Hayden: "Um, I don't remember."

And the other kids, Jake Quinn and Claire?
Well, they missed Hayden very much and only asked me 5,631 times,

"Where Hayyen? Where Hayyen go?"

But waiting for and seeing the school bus totally made there day.

I think forgetting the backpack on the first bus ride is a requisite.

It's been 3 weeks and Melody still constantly asks where Jack is!
I'm glad he had a great time...and he is a big kid riding the bus!

Aww!! I don't know how all ya'll do the bus thing with a K'er. My daughter goes to public school, but didn't ride a bus until Middle School. I just couldn't do it. Plus, she was out of district so I had a little excuse :-p

Ok, I my girls started Middle and High School today. Let me just tell you how nervous I was!!! I find that so silly that I get nervous, but I can't help it.

So congratulations for making it through the first of many nervous first days (for you). :)

Every year for school, even the K years, I was not teary at all. Happy, excited, but not teary. I think because MY kids were not nervous at all (I was lucky that way). But this year, M rode the bus for the first time. And it was all I could do not to bawl my eyes out at him getting on that bus without me. He's in 4th grade!!!

These hormones are killing me.

Glad Hayden's school career is such a success! =)

Jen, your kids are so stinkin' cute that I just wanna reach through my computer and pinch their cheeks!! I love their excitement as they're waiting for Hayden!!

Awww, the pics of Hayden getting on the bus even tore at MY heartstrings. It must have been hard for you. Cole and Bella don't ride the bus to school but last year in pre-K they went on a field trip to the pumpkin patch and b/c I hadn't been fingerprinted yet in the school's district, I couldn't ride the bus with them but I was allowed to follow behind in my car. I cried the whole way, like a total dork. There was just something about seeing them get on the bus that took my breath away, reminding me that this saying is so true:

"Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ..."

So how was it with just 3 kids? Doesn't that seem weird? Like 3 kids is easier than 4 but somehow it is. When Cole and Bella are off at kindergarten for the measly 3 hours that they're gone, having just the 2 little ones around seems like a piece of cake. The first day of school (after I cried), I was like "Oh wow, so much freedom", even though I still had 2 kids to still watch after!

You can get used to him "not remembering". Took five mothers to work out together what our kids had done the first day back. And even then we probably only have quarter of the day accounted for.

Great post, Jen! Almost as good as being there. I wish I could have been there. Thanks to the computer you are sharing with us and the great WIFI here in the hospital it was fun to share. No go on the escape today--maybe tomorrow. Love to you all.

He is such a joyful happy guy!
Love these pics.
I feel like I'm doing T a disservice by not letting him ride the bus, but I also know that he'd only make it to his classroom half the time if I did.

First of all, your kids are all crazy cute!

And congrats to Hayden for doing so well and riding the bus, etc. I'm a little freaked out by the bus (more because we are new here and it's my own issue!). Hope he has a great Kindergarten year! : )
