How To Ruin Your Favorite Shrit

1. Take you favorite black and white striped shirt out of the dresser drawer.

2. Put on your favorite shirt on and realize that their is a faint red tomato sauce stain on the shirt that you didn't notice before you washed it.

3. Get bright idea to try and bleach spot where stain is since it happened to be on a white stripe.

4. Take shirt off and walk into laundry room to get bleach out.

5. Ever so carefully spray bleach on stain.

6. Realize that now shirt smells like bleach and that is not a good smell to have all day especially when you are going to the pediatricians office and you may or may not have a slight crush on him.

7. Go to sink to rinse shirt which spread bleach water onto the black. Bleach removes color in case you didn't know.

8. Rush around house in bra and shorts trying to find a black marker in which to color in bleached spot of black stripe.

9. Realize that you are coloring on a wet shirt and the wetness is causing the black to bleed into the white stripe that you just bleached to remove a red tomato stain.

10. Get a Q-tip and try to carefully bleach the bleeding black color from white but realize that it is only turning the black blue. Now there is not only a red tomato stain but a bleeding black bluish stain on white stripe.

11. Curse under breath so the children will not hear you and sob a little as you throw favorite shirt in the corner.

12. Choose a new shirt and sigh and whine as new shirt doesn't meet expectation for making outfit cute as the old favorite shirt would have. Also get eye roll from husband because he doesn't understand what all the fuss is about, after all its "just a shirt."

13. Proceed to leave ruined shirt in corner of bedroom so that every time you walk by, you are reminded of failure and that your favorite shirt is now ruined which probably would have been fine if you left it alone since it was only a faint reddish stain.

*sigh*

I've done this.

Others have done this.

You're in good company.

Get a new shirt for Vegas. We'll celebrate with wine and chocolate cake.

I have soo ben there. Whenever I start using a paintbrush to apply bleach things typically end badly.

You did better than me, though. I usually get the spray or a stray drip on my shorts, too, thus ruining the entire outfit.

Yeah, bleach is the root of all evil. Ok, maybe not that bad. But in my experience, I tend to ruin more clothing with it, than get stains out. Did you know banana stains are the worst? Because it's the sugar which has "burned" onto the shirt, and NOTHING in the WORLD will get it out. sigh. But, um, my weapons of choice: Shout and Oxy Stain Remover. Pick one, soak, scrub. If doesn't come out, try the other one. Repeat.

OMG I thought I was the only one who did this kinda thing.

Great minds think alike!

You are not alone. Thousands of women (if not millions) have done the same.

But I know this doesn't make things much better right now.

Hey, I have an idea! Come by my blog, and pick up an award I have for you. Maybe this will make you feel a little better! :)

oh, boo :-(

I would totally do something like that.

AND

MAN, the laundry REALLY IS kicking your booty, eh??

Cristin said...

I would have tried to lick the stain off and if that failed, just worn the stupid stained thing around like I didn't know anything was amiss...

You are so not alone.

Although I have a really bad history with bleach, so I rarely use it. Ever.

I have an idea.

Go shopping. Buy a new shirt. You'll feel much better.

That's tragic.

Oh Jen, my heart is heavy with sorrow here for your shirt too - it stinks to loose a favorite shirt - why is it that that never happens to the shirts you could care less about and the ones that don't fit right - it's like they are immune to that sort of tragedy!

I am so, so sorry. I HATE it when one of my few shirts gets ruined. Sigh...

Oh no Jen! Sounds like something I would do! Sorry to hear about the shirt!

I'm finally catching up on my blog reading. I sure did miss yours! You crack me up! I love the laundry taking over post. And I think the open-letter to Jake is ditto for Trevor. SO GROSS!!!

Aw hugs!!!! And I've totally tried to "color in" my bleach mistakes before.... ;) My new BFF is the "bleach pen". Keeps the bleach to only exact spots.

I have so many ruined favorite shirts. It is just wrong. Because it's not like I can go out and get another just like it. It really does make me want to buy more than one though :-)

I don't think (straight) men get attached to their clothes the way we do. Venus and Mars.

I followed your directions precisely and you're right -- I did ruin my favorite shirt!!! Thanks for the effective tutorial! It was wonderful.

Stopping by from SITS to say Hiya!

Are we related? Do you also break bones, get bruises and run into things all the time?

LOL

I guess I'm the only one who wants to see a picture of your ped - did you take your camera phone?

Oh, and sorry about the shirt. Sooo been there.

Karen said...

When I saw the title, all I could think is, Oh-oh-oh, I know how to do this! Turns out your way is much more involved!

Time to shop for a new favorite shirt.

i am sighing with you. that just sucks.

Swift Jan said...

Just a shirt indeed! That's nose flick worthy!!

I usually do that sort of thing the first time I wear a new top!

Anonymous said...

That is so sucky. I totally feel your pain! I just bought a new shirt the other day and it is currently my new favorite shirt...so I made sure I bought another one. Just because....someday somthing like that will happen to me.

Melinda said...

Too funny. Love this post! I have performed similar fruitless procedures myself. Me + Bleach = Disaster.

Thanks for visiting my blog from SITS! I'm following yours now!

AiringMyLaundry said...

Oh, I've ruined many clothes too so I feel your pain. I don't understand how to use bleach apparently.

stephanie said...

when this happens to me, i cry. because it usually happens to be one of about 3 shirts that actually fit and the other 2 are dirty.

Banteringblonde said...

haha that is funny ... in a not funny way ;) I hate when that happens!

Lifeofkaylen said...

Eek! I applaud your effort for sure! That was a lot of steps that I would not have tried.

Helene said...

You know, when this happens to me, I just run around the house with a bra on...no shirt. Like today, I started off wearing one of my favorite beige t-shirts....one of the kids got syrup all over it. I changed into a blue t-shirt...I ended up getting poop all over it when I was changing Landon (don't ask...I'm sure you've been there too). I was going to change shirts again but instead I figured "hey, I'm not going anywhere so why bother". I spent the rest of the afternoon in my bra and my shorts.

Oh no! That was sad, that was funny, thanks for sharing! When I saw the title I thought, "How to ruin your favourite WHAT?!?" then I realised there was an 'r' in there. It's fine. Leave it, I like it.

Cathy said...

I love it! Many a piece of clothing has been ruined by my hand...usually it is a shirt that should NOT be placed in the dryer, and comes out two sizes too small!

tiarastantrums said...

but a good excuse to go shopping!!!!!!

pan x 8 said...

I hate that! Especially when that favorite shirt gives you a confident feeling because you love it and it makes you look good!

Anonymous said...

Oh! That's a shame! So sad when a favourite shirt is no longer wearable. I won't be rolling my eyes at you, trust me. I totally get it.

and I thought I was the only one with sharpie black fixing my bleach phuck ups. I heart you!

OMGosh! Laughing away here (sorry).

See, this is why you need fabric markers ;)

My dear, I *HAD* to read this out loud because every woman/mom I know have done some crazy stuff when it comes to laundry...I'm sorry to hear of the ruination of your favorite shirt. Hopefully there will be another.
