Tell Me a Joke

Little boys are fascinating creatures, especially around the age of 5 and when you get more than one of them together.

Hayden's best friends in the whole wide world is his cousin, Cole. When they get together, their imaginations just run wild. Sometimes its going on a dragon hunt, other times its playing ice cream shop in a huge cardboard box but this time it was all about telling jokes.

Here are a few original one liners from the minds of these little boys.

Hayden: Why did the tree go into space?
Cole: I don't know?
Hayden: To look for some soil.

Both boys: big belly laughs
Cole: That was a good one, Hayden.
Hayden: Thanks, Cole. What about this one?

Hayden: Why did the chicken go on the roof?
Cole: I don't know.
Hayden: So it could get smoked so we could eat it.

Both boys: Big belly laughs
Cole: That was a good one too. My turn now.
Hayden: (still laughing) Ok.

Cole: Why did the cow jump over the house?
Hayden: Why?
Cole: To get away from the volcano.

Both boys: Big belly laughs.
Hayden: Good job, Cole that was a good one too.
Cole: Your turn.

Hayden: Why did the chicken cross the road?
Cole: Why?
Cole: To get hit by a car.

Both boys: Hysterical laughter and giggles.

Now to be honest, I didn't really get why the jokes were so funny. In fact, I don't really think these are jokes at all. But I did laugh at the two of them having such a good time making each other laugh with their jokes.

There is nothing like a good friend who will laugh with you at your jokes whether they are funny or just plain weird.

Oh that was so precious! What a hoot! I used to love the one where ... "Why did the bubblegum cross the road?" "Because it was stuck to the chicken's foot!"

Yeah. Top-shelf comedy.

Good for you for getting those memories down. They happen so often and life gets so busy they get buried!

too funny! My 2.5 year olds are starting to really entertain each other with the silly things they say/do. It cracks me up to watch and listen to them talk about the cars, horsies, their toys, etc...oh, their imaginations!

Oh, I remember when my girls told ME the nonsensical jokes. Constantly. They were not satisfied just sharing them together...but I had to be a part of their laugh fest. I think I perfected my "laugh" then...

Hilarious! I love how Cole just "gets" Hayden. Perfect and sweet.

I have twin boys that are almost 8 now and they do this stuff...their jokes are getting better as they get older but they do not make any sense! They just crack up.

LOL! It must be a 5 year-old boy thing because the last time I visited with my friend's 5 year-old son, he tried to tell ME those jokes. Well, not THOSE jokes, but jokes that totally made no sense, but were hilarious to him. Good times!

We hear random jokes like that too. Crazy kids! =)

My youngest is the same way. On the 4th, she had a living room full of cousins on the edge of their seats with her story telling:-)

I have two preschoolers. The punchline to every joke is "butt" or "poop." So be happy your kids are kind of looking for other options.

Awe! This is adorable. Def made me giggle.

little kid jokes never make sense which makes them even funnier. :)

Even if the jokes do not make any sense, nothing beats the sounds of little kid laughter!

My kids are 9, 8, and 6 and do this all the time! The 6 year old has the least funny jokes but they always laugh hysterically at each other's joke even though most of the time neither hubby or I think they are funny. Kids are silly!

I love that they thought the "jokes" were funny. A sense of humor is a godsend, for sure.

Those jokes are better than a lot that I have heard. Here is my dad's favorite answer to the age old Why did the chicken cross the road question...To prove to the armadillo that it's possible.

LOL--they just love the silly stuff! Sounds like my Gooser!

I love little boy jokes. Mine still makes up jokes that make no sense whatsoever. He thinks they are the funniest in the world though and I laugh at that. :)

In the midst of laughter like this, I usually do a classic move, which is "wait, wait, wait, I've got one too. Listen to this."

I'll do my best to think of something funny, using the same joke pattern. The difference, however, is that my joke falls completely flat, even with the 5 yo crowd.

Seriously.

I have a feeling my son would find these totally amusing as well!!!

And one of my favorite jokes of all-time was by my brother when he was about this age. It still cracks me up.

Why did the chicken cross the road?
To see Hank.

I love little kid jokes! Our 6 year old makes up his own jokes. Unfortunately the punch line usually involves words like "monkey butt" or "stink head"...that's my boy.

I love these conversations too! It makes you believe in great things and innocent minds, doesn't it?

Cute! I love silly little boys and their belly laughs...and their attempts at jokes.

My 3 year old loves to tell knock know jokes. One day I told him one...

Me: Knock, knock
D3: Who's there (already giggling)
Me: Olive
D3: Olive who? (still giggling)
Me: Olive You!
D3: Laughs hysterically

So now, the punchline to every one of his knock knock jokes is ________ (insert word here) YOU!!!

LOVE listening to the kids being goofy/silly like that.
There is nothing better than listening to them being totally inventive and having a blast at the same time :)

I love little boys! This is Tyler and his cousin Caden (Caden is almost 4) Of course Tyler isn't telling jokes yet exactly, but they just giggle back and forth - many times they don't even say real words - one will say "easy weasy measy peasy keasy" the other will repeat, and giggling ensues :-)

kids telling jokes are always so funny...whether the jokes are funny or not!

My heart is melting right now. How sweet are they together. There sure is not much better than a friend who laughs at your unfunny jokes :)

1st time here--great that you're recording these details because someday you'll remember laughing at the jokes, but it will be hard to remember one. fun stuff.

Those two are on to something. In twenty years they'll have their own stand up comedy act that is so surreal and cool that only the hippest people truly "get" them.
My BIL's boarding school room mate was a childhood friend from a very early age. The two of them used to reminisce about the jokes they told when they were five or six. Their favorite went: "I'm not thirsty. He's hungry."
