Follow the Rules and There Will be Fun for Everyone

We took the kids to Play World the other day. God bless Play World! It is an indoor play place where the kids can climb, run, jump and basically get rid of all their energy. I can tell you that we are going to be frequent fliers to this place this winter.

The kids had an awesome time. It was the babies first trip where they could actually enjoy the toys and such. Hayden has been may times before. He loves the place and works up quite the sweat running around. His head was actually soaking wet and he kept trying to rub it on me. When did he turn into such a boy?

The babies were totally digging the ball pit. They like balls to begin with so when I put them in the ball pit, I thought that their little heads were going to explode.
So all in all it was a good trip. But there was this man there with his son that was kind of annoying me. He never spoke to me but his actions put him on my list. So as a good blogger here is my open letter to him.

Dear First Time Play Word Dad,

Let me just tell you that you have a very cute son. I could tell that you were not used to the whole 'outing' thing but you really did do a good job. But I do have a couple things that I need to discuss with you.

First, I have to ask, Do you not see your son very often? Maybe you don't so I get the whole wanting to capture him on film and in photos. But really, asking him to hold still so that you could get the perfect shot? Did you not notice all the wiggling and tears? He just wanted to play. And in trying to get the perfect shot, which doesn't exist by the way, you were totally holding up the line. My kids were getting frustrated while you tried to get your son, who seemed to be about 2, to look at your camera. I am here to tell you that it is not going to happen. Trust me. Just take what you can get.

Second, you may not know this but Play World is a place that you need to PAY to get into. Did you think that the cash register was just there for looks? It really does serve a purpose. We had to pay and so should you. Now, I know that the girls working there were not really paying much attention to the door but that was because they were busy handing out cheap, unnecessary 'prizes' in exchange for tickets. It is a big deal to kids. You could have waved or called to them. They would have come. It worked for us.

Thirdly and finally, you must have missed ALL (I know its hard to miss like a dozen signs up all over the place) the signs that said that there were no shoes allowed. All shoes were to be taken off and put into little bins behind the counter. You know, the counter where you should have paid at. Thankfully, your son did not step on any of my kids fingers (or I would have really given you an earful) but he did get a couple of other kids. I am surprised you missed it since you were filming the whole thing.

So there. That is it. I know it is not easy being out alone with your kid(s). I like it much better when some one come with me. But for the sake of a fun time, just take this advice from a Mommy who has been there and done that a few times. And hopefully next time you can follow the rules and we all can have a great time.

~A Concerned Mommy.

Sometimes cameras can ruin a really good time, hey? He needs to learn to enjoy the moment with real eyes.

And follow the rules!

Seriously?

Sometimes people amaze me. Like the rules don't apply to them...

That ball pit looks like a great time. Can we come to Play World? I'm sure Gabe would have a great time!

The world would be a better place if everyone just played by Mama's Rules.

We must live in the same town. That guy was at family fun center the other week.

We have this jump zone place near us - and just about every time we go, the ladies behind the counter have to chase after someone to get them to pay. You can't wear shoes there either. But you have to wear socks. I have bought so many pairs of socks from there - it's crazy!

And he wanted his two year old to be still? Oh-kay....

I desperately need a Play World close to me.

I hate people like that. I probably wouldn't have had the power to resist telling him a thing or two though, especially about getting out of the way and shoes. Ru-ude. (Him, not me.)

Play World sounds fun. I wish we had something like that in my town.

As for the dad...not paying would be enough to tick me off.

Ooo! Thanks for the reminder about places like this! :) I definitely need to bring Delia to one near us this winter to run off some of her energy. Ugh on the dad being difficult. I do give him props for taking his son out by himself though. My own husband has yet to do that.

My daughter loves the ball pit!

It is so sad that some people are oblivious to the etiquette that governs fun places like this.

oh it's a man thing - that would be my husband - down to the leaving the shoes on - he doesn't SEE anything!!

This parent will continue to annoy other parents in the future, as he ignores the rules of the carpool lane at school. People like that make me crazy.

I would have had to say something but kudos to you for noticing that he might not get to spend too much time with his son.

We've got a few places like that around here.
The only thing I like about Chuck E Cheese is that you don't have to pay to get in. But it's mostly games so you have to pay for the tokens.
Then there is PlayWorld Down Under... it has an Australian theme. This one you have to pay to get in, but its a huge indoor playground thingy. AND they have a separate area only for toddlers, which they strictly enforce.
There are also two places that all they have are those inflatable things. I think I may take the girls to one of them while they are on winter break, just for something to do...

You mean the rules actually apply to other people???

Some parents are clueless. I hope I've never been one of them. lol I'm such a rule follower...most of the time.

Sometimes you just have to shake you head and wonder about people like that dad.

oh my gosh, that letter is crazy!

it looks like they adored the ball pit, i think my little ones would have a ball (heehee)!

My baby would L-O-V-E those ball pits! And I'm giving you bonus points for giving the (apparently inexperienced) dad the benefit of the doubt and not getting in his face to tell him what's what. We all need a little more kindness these days. It's nice to hear tales of understanding! Good job, mama! =)

Sounds like a really fun place.

Uhhh - do they let adults play too?

We have a play centre like that near us! I love it!!!!

And I can understand your frustration! I hate the bid kids that get in there & trample down the little ones :(

I really appreciate when a dad takes their kid(s) out for some one-on-one time, but sometimes they are just clueless! Ha, ha! Can't blame a guy for trying! :o)

Those indoor play centers are a life saver in the winter!! The kids look like they are having a ball (haha!)

And I know just the type of person you wrote your letter to -- they seem to be everywhere I go nowadays. What happened to the little kindnesses and respect?

By the way, I'm having a giveaway over at my blog. The prize is a $20 gift card. Stop by if you are interested!

Love the letter to dad! and the pictures, I can't believe how big they are getting!

You are so sweet way you wrote the letter. My would have been more of a "Hey...DA did you not see the signage and hello, this place didn't magically appear, so chances are, you gotta pay." Yeah, maybe I need some sleep so I can play nice.

It sound like a fun place but that man has to be the most oblivious dad around!!
