Good Times at Camp Henry Part II: Swimming

This is my series on our camp vacation. Here is Part I

So like any good camp, Camp Henry is on a lake. But there was only one problem, the lake front was closed until 1PM. This is all fine and good except in Hayden's world. He just did not understand why he could not spend every waking minute in the lake?
He did adjust and by the last day, miracles of all miracles, he did not want to go swimming. He found a new love, the craft cabin.
The babies, from past experience, do not like lakes. Pools, they have no problem with but there is something about a lake.
So this trip, I got smart. I bought them water shoes, for $3 a pair (thank you Target), and I bought an inflatable little pool, (clearance price of $5, I just love end of summer sales.). It worked great!
They were much more willing to walk around on the beach and in the lake with the water shoes on and they loved playing in the pool. Well all expect Quinn, sometimes there is just no pleasing that kid. He is just not happy unless he is the thorn attached to my side.
Actually, by the end of the trip Claire really got into the swimming thing. We put a little life jacket on her and she just bobbed around in the water, having the best time.

Hayden playing on the beach, making a home for the dinosaurs he either found or took from another kid. All I know is that they just appeared and I did not pack them

I am such a sucker when he asks to take a picture of his things so that I can put is 'on my computer page.' Here are the dinosaurs in their home.

Claire with one of the many 'little baby sitters' that adopted her and God love them, they were really a big help.

Playing in the little pool. Jake splashing away and having a great time. Quinn clinging to me and crying away.

See, I told you Hayden got dirty. This was actually Jeff's idea. He told Hayden to go in the water and then roll around in the sand like a cat. Of course, Hayden jumped at the chance to be covered in sand and not get in trouble. We are still trying to get all the sand out of his hair and other crevices.

Up next: all our little owies.

What is it with Dads and the their great ideas? My darling husband was teasing the Wild Child on her birthday and told her she should try and spit her candles out instead of blowing them out. Ya... Half the cake was not touched due to his lack thinking that one through.

Hayden looks like he is in heaven. I love the dino home. Please tell him for me.

That was great thinking on the water socks! Wish I would have thought about that. We did Crocs, but they come off and float away. They were not much help.

We've only been to the beach once... it was about 4 years ago. My Little Miss was about 18 months at the time and absolutely hated the sand. She was ok out in the water... we put her in a floaty thing and the waves rocked her to sleep! But put her down in the sand... ugh, she would scream! But I guess I don't blame her, sand does have a knack for getting into all those crevices!

You attempted vacation with 4 small children? I only have 3 little ones and I utterly refused to vacation this year. I was NOT packing that many diapers.

Great idea with the pool! Was it more fun for Hayden to roll around in the sand and get dirty or for Jeff to watch him do it because "daddy thought it was a fabulous idea!" :-)

This brings back sweet memories of Mosholu Day Camp. I loved it!!!!!!!! This place looks great. And I do love lakes. Always have. Just not the lakes here in FL with alligators in 'em.

Why the heck do they close the lake until 1pm? Bizarre!! I like the sand on the lake, how fun.

I think it's hilarious those dinosaurs just appeared from somewhere. hehe

And the cute babies. Oh, how cute they are.

You'll NEVER get the sand out of all their crevices. Stuck there forever!

Water shoes are a fantastic invention.. especially for kids like mine who don't like the feeling of sand on their feet. Go figure!

That looked like soooo much fun today. We didn't make it to the beach this year but we had fun in our backyard pool. I do miss the sand. I will have to make it a point to get there next year:-)

What was the deal with the lake front closing at 1pm...I can see at dusk, but in the middle of the day?!
Hayden looks like he was in hog heaven...love the home he made for his newly acquired dinosaurs!
And kuddos to you for being a smart Mom with the water shoes and pool...
Looks like a fun time was had by all (even Quinn...May be? One day? Since you were there?)
