If I Have to Hear That Song One More Time...

Once you have kids, the days of you choosing what music to play in the car usually goes right out the window. It is my experience that there is not a lot of kid music out there that is not sickeningly sweet and annoying to Mom.
You know what I am talking about, the kind of music that makes you want to poke your eyes balls out with pencils and stuff barbed wire in your ears. You know the song that they love to hear over and over and over again.
That you think if you hear it one more time you might just explode. I am guessing that as they grow it may get worse. The sickeningly sweet music will become horrific, vulgar rap music but all in good time.
One artist that we have found that I actually enjoy is The Laurie Berkner Band. Her songs are fun and up beat. They are fun to sing and dance around to. But best of all they don't make want to run screaming from the car when the music starts. The kids like it and we like it, perfect. She and her band have a new album coming out.

While searching for this, I found a new site called Soundcheck. It is a really cool site that lets you see and hear performances by your favorite artists. There are also behind the scenes peeks, interviews with the artist, photos and more. There are a lot of artists featured. I don't know about you but I like to see/listen before I buy and this is a really cool way to do so.
This video is just a preview of what the full site has to offer. Go and check it out yourself. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I am SO GLAD my kiddos listen to semi-normal music now! I just watch for swear words, but they like my kind of tunes. Although in the car we still listen to Radio Disney, but that's Jonas Brothers and Hannah and stuff, which I can handle! I remember this band from either playhouse disney or nick jr?

I don't mind Laurie Berkner.. but I LOVE Dan Zanes!! I think I like it more than Graham... and Raffi is totally tolerable...

We're a total Laurie Berkner family!!! We have all her songs on the iPod and my girls know every one (sadly, so do I).

Another one of our favorites is Justin Roberts. If you haven't heard of him... try the CD Meltdown first. :)

I am a big Laurie Berkner fan...a nice thing about having sirius radio is that they have a "kid's stuff" channel that only plays kid's songs so I get to "test drive" songs that way. Another favorite band is Trout fishing in America...too funny!

Cool stuff. I had never heard of them before. I will be looking for the new album. I truly understand about wanting some of the things kids want over and over again. When my kids were smaller we would road trip from Kandsas to Utah and back. My kids loved the Teletubbies. The RS would threaten to drive us into a ditch if he had to hear one more word out of a Teletubbie.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you get some sleep tonight!

Laurie Berkner restored my sanity - she came into my life at a time when I was about to go Barney-fied insane. Now I've got my kids listening to their music on their own through headphones and all is right in the world.

Soundcheck seems pretty cool! I like how they kind of interview and also play. Very neat.

My boys are so into ROck Band and Guitar Hero and therefore are way into rock-n-roll these days. So, I usually like listening to what they want to hear. Thank goodness! I wouldn't mind a little disney little mermaid music though or high school musical...occasionally.

Bizarrely my childen aren't into cutesy music. My son likes Pearl Jam and my daughter Take That. He's 5, she's 3!

I have to admit I have been lucky in this department. The cutesy stuff my little guy has liked I have liked too & now he is into Jonas Bros but only the rockin ones. One of his earliest fav songs was I Wanna Talk About Me by Toby Keith. Thank goodness we have NEVER bought a Barney CD.
