Quiet, It's Still Nap Time!

Hayden is up in his room suppose to be taking a nap. I here a lot of thumping going on so I go what stairs to check.

Hayden: "Mom, can I get up now?"

Me: "No, you still have to rest for 30 more minutes."

Hayden: "Can I sleep for 3 minutes?"

Me: "No, 30 minutes."

Hayden: "But I can't count that high."

I love how creative kids can be when it comes to avoiding sleep in any form. Smart little cookie that one is.

Ah! Clever, Hayden! The excuses, how do you reply to them?

First I try not to laugh, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.(Then I blog about it.)
But even if I laugh, I still stick to my guns. I try to always to stay true to my word and not hand out "punishments" that are off the wall like you can't have candy for the rest of your life. Its all about the follow through.
In our house, bed time is bed time. We do not give into any excuses. If he is being to rowdy in his room, he gets one warning and if it continues its naught chair or I take away one of his "lovies."

My mom had the greatest trick for this. She would set a timer for 30 minutes and tell my son he had to lay quietly and watch the timer until it went off. Then he could get up. Well, naturally, he would fall asleep watching the timer every time and then she would tiptoe in and turn off the timer. Worked every time!
