How to Make Apple Pie

The other day, Hayden got to go on a very special trip with one of his Grandmas. He spent the night over at her house, went to the library and went to the apple orchard to pick apples. He had a wonderful time and often speaks about this trip.
One thing that he asks a lot is if we can make apple pie? Now, I can cook but I am not a baker. I can make a cake or a cupcake but pie is out of the question. I so wish that I was talented like Susie but I am not.
I have tried to tell him this but he just does not understand. He asks and asks and asks, he has even gone so far as to tell me how to make the pie. So I am going to share Hayden's Apple Pie recipe. I have not tried it, I am not quiet sure how it will work. This is exactly how he told it to me.

Hayden's Apple Pie
3 big apples
2 and 1/2 cups flour
5 or 10 cups cinnamon

Put all the things in a big circle and then put it in the oven for 10 minutes at 500 degrees. Then you will get a yummy apple pie. But when it is done, we must put it in the window so that is can cool.
He ended by says, "See Mom, it is easy, so lets go."

How can I refuse that? I see some apple pie making in my future.

Hey, he's on to something there. Just lessen the cinnamon a bit and you have a winner. How cool would it be to make it just like he said, together.

Hmmm. Is there somewhere you can buy cinnamon by the pound? Haha! I don't bake either.

Ahh! I want to go on a trip with grandma! I am not a baker nor a cook but my dad was. When he passed away, I was determined to make an apple pie as good as his. I tried for years using his recipe but it was always runny. Here is the one I found that worked! And it is easy as...well pie! hee-hee!

SOUR CREAM APPLE PIE

PIE:

1 c. sour cream
3/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 c. diced tart apples
8 inch unbaked pie shell

TOPPING:

1/2 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. flour
1/4 c. butter

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Peel and dice apples. Pour sour cream, sugar, flour, salt, vanilla and egg in large bowl and beat together. Add apples and mix until apples are coated. Pour mixture into unbaked pie shell. Bake for 25 minutes. While pie is baking, mix together brown sugar, flour and softened butter. Sprinkle mixture over top of pie, return to oven and bake 20 minutes longer.

Oh and don't forget you must put it in the window to cool!

If only all recipes were that easy! HA!

Yep, I have a feeling you are going to attempt to make an apple pie very soon! :)

Girlfriend, you CAN make apple pie. Here's the recipe: Buy one package of Pet-Ritz Pie crusts (usually there are two in there, in two separate pie pans). Take the two pans out of the wrapper and lie them side by side on the counter. Next open one can of apple pie filling (21 oz.) pour it into one pie shell, then take the other pie shell out of the pan and place it on top of the filled pie shell. cut a few slits on the top. Cook according to the directions on the filling can.

THIS IS NOT CHEATING!!! DOn't let anyone tell you it is. If you are extra adventurous, add a few VERY THINLY SLICED apples to the filling. That will make it seem more "real".

That much cinnamon? Gee, how many of those 50 cent containers of cinnamon from Wal-Mart would that be? :D

Aren't you sweet mentioning me and my pie? Thanks!!

My older daughter wrote a recipe for cake when she was small. My favorite was the cup of pepper that it called for:-)

Did I tell you I think the name of your blog is very creative. Fun play on words.

Thanks for stopping by today. I always enjoy seeing your comments.

As far as Apple Pie... think you could come on over and make it for us? I am soooooo not a baker. I need to bake some cookies tonight and I am totally procrastinating. I am posting the recipe tomorrow. It is a good one. Make sure to stop by and steal it :).

Have a great day!

I love how he was able to articulate a recipe....pretty darn impressive. And I bet he'd take a stab at eating it if you baked it:)

"So lets go"....I love it!
Did he arrange for a sitter for the little ones while you make it from scratch, too? (: Truly though, that recipe isn't too far off. My mom's apple pie calls for a 1/2 cup of apricot brandy poured over the top (the alcohol bakes out, but leaves the most amazing spiced taste). OH LORD, it is GOOD.
I have some catching up to do on blogs! Life got in the way again...

I think you need a little more cinnamon and you've got a winner. LOL
