Welcome, 'Blog around the World' readers. Today your trip takes you to Michigan, the 'Wolverine State'. This is really a beautiful state to live in. We are lucky enough to experience the four seasons (or if you will 2 season, road construction and hockey). And that means there is no planning on the weather but if you wait about 10 minutes, things are bound to change.
For those of you who want to see Michigan in all its splendor, here are a few seasonal pictures.
Spring
OK, so maybe you guessed it, those are not pictures of Michigan. Just some random ones that I found on the internet but they are beautiful. When the hostess of 'Blog around the World' contacted me, I was thrilled. I am loving the fact that I am going to be featured (well, lets face it who doesn't like all the attention) but I had no idea what I was going to post about.
This blog is all about me and my life with triplets plus their big brother (yes, triplets) but the purpose about going around the world is to learn about the places and meet new people.
I have got the meeting people down but I am sad to say that even though, I have lived in this state my entire life, I really know nothing about it. I am not really up on my state trivia. It has not been high on my priority list since my time is mostly spent just trying to come out from under the pile of my children and life.
So I did a little homework. I went on the trusty internet and learned some fun (although kind of random) things about my good old state of Michigan.
1. The state name is from the Indian word, 'meicigama' meaning great or large lake.
2. Residents of Michigan are lovingly referred to as Michiganders or Michiganites.
My little Michiganders
and my Michiganite
3. The state motto is "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look around you."4. We are surrounded by the Great Lakes. Can you name them? (I will give you a hint, H.O.M.E.S)
5.People from Michigan will often use their hand to show you were they are from with in the state.
7. No matter where you stand in the state you are 85 miles from the Great Lakes.
8. Michigan is the 8th most populated state in the country (I knew it was crowded here). The list: California, New York, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan.
9. Some famous people who are natives or residents (I have never seen them); Robin Williams, Madonna, Lily Tomlin, Casey Kasem, 'Magic' Johnson, and the 38th President of the United States Gerald R. Ford.
10. This is a nice place to live. Although the weather changes often, we have no threat of earthquakes or hurricanes. I really like living here.
Well, I hope that you enjoyed your trip and maybe learned a thing or two. Come by again, as tomorrow we will be back to our regular schedule of my life.
I do have just one more question, all you from those warm and sunny beach states, do you think that you might have some room in your luggage for me. I really could use a child-less vacation.

Thanks for the tour of Michigan. My best friend out here in L.A. is from Michigan and has always talked about moving back since I've known her. I never understood it (never having been there) but it must be something good since she loves it so much.
Visiting from BATW...
The hand thing cracks me up! I have family in Michigan (mom's side in the Detroit area, dad's side in the Grand Rapids area) and had never seen anyone do that until I got to college and met some MSU students. They started doing the hand thing and it took me a moment to get what they were doing...ahh, yes, genius, Michigan is kind of shaped like a mitten. Smart one, I am not sometimes. :-)
What a great tour of Michigan !! ;-)
Do you have an understanding Dr? When my twins were about 3 and my singletons 4 1/2 and 7, my Family Dr looked me up and down ... pronounced me as 'exhausted' and wrote a prescription for a holiday, preferably out of the country. I went to Australia (I was in NZ) for 2 weeks. it was absolute bliss. Their dad stayed home with them. It was a bit of a wake up call for him :-)
Your Michiganders and nite are very cute. Love the hand. You have a great blog here. I am so with you on TV and my kids love Sid.
Thanks for the tour!
Aloha Jen, Nice to meet you and thank you for the tour, I love the map of your hand lol. Wow triplets, you go girl!!! I'm so glad we get to meet new friends through BATW.
I have a friend fromt he Navy that if you ask her where she is from she does the hand thing too. I think it is so funny. thank you for the tour. I will be moving back to Cali in a month, my door is always open to MoM. We have to stick togethere!
I actually knew a lot of those facts. Hooray for 5th grade homework. Since I have you on my feed reader, I would have made it here eventually- have fun being the featured blogger for today.
P.S. You have some sweet Michiganders and Michigandites.
Happy BATW Day!
Loved the hand. We do a similar thing in Cali, but we use the whole body. Salinas is the armpit of Cali (we often change this to any undesirable location, they are somehow magically transported to the pit!), Humboldt is the brain, etc. I live in the gut of California!
Greetings from California!
Um, I don't think I would have voted for your state motto. Not really catchy, is it? LOL
Cute children! Have fun today!
It is so fun to learn about all of our states from someone who lives in them. Unlike Gina, I must not have been listening during my 5th grade geography class, because most of this is new to me!
Hope you enjoy your day as a featured blogger. I enjoyed my peek into your life and family.
Hello Michigander! I am a Hoosier at heart, but loved spending my summers in the U.P. of Michigan at my Aunt's summer place. (Tippy tippy top middle finger - hahaha) Loved fishing on Superior.
And growing up on the IN side of the state line, I also miss the DUNES!!! I take my kids there when we go back for visits.
oh - and another fond thing about MI - I worked for MEIJER, INC for a few years, when they started opening stores in IN. I worked in HR and traveled to the lovely MI all the time for training.
oooh- and my mother received her nursing degree from SWM at the age of 42. I was so proud!
Thanks for letting me visit, and for the chit-chat. GO WOLVERINES!!!!
Thanks for sharing... your little ones are so adorable and God bless you for all the patience you must have! And I think people reading this are just as interested in your family as your state!!! And your family is cute!
Happy BATW day. Thanks for the tour. I always love coming to your blog!!
thanks for the tour of Michigan! You do need a REAL vacation! Happy BATW day and may a real vacation come soon.
Hey there! Thanks for the tour! My little sis was born at the U. of Mich. Hospital. We lived in South Lyon for 4 years. Lovely place! You've got quite a crowd here. Thanks for taking us on the BATW tour!
Well hello, Bloggy Friend! Coming to your from BATW--isn't it great how Debbie could get us all together like this? Thanks for the tour, and hope to see you again at my place real soon!
I was born and raised in Michigan and only moved from there in March 2007. I miss it EVERYDAY. I love the way it smells during the fall when everyone is outside burning leaves or having a bonfire. I love all the parks. I love the transition from season to season (something that it lacking here is hot Florida). I do not miss road construction season. YOu know it is spring when the orange cones pop up! Thanks for the reminders of how great MI is. In my heart I will always be a Michigander.
thank you for the info on Michigan would have never know some of it. and you kids are too cute!
althought the pic's are random they are wonderful. I would also like some room in that luggage going to the sunshine areas can I fit?
Congratulations on your big BATW day. I hope that you enjoy your day in the sun.
What a great tour! Thanks for the fun introduction :)
Congrats on your BATW feature today!! Your state is one of the few that I have not had the chance to visit yet but since I'm married to a CarGuy a lot of my money seems to end up benefiting your state I bet!!
How fun that you are featured!!
I totally had to crack up at the hand thing. I grew up in WI, and we did that too. ;)
Hello, fellow Michigander! Nice job on the post. You did get me with those pix. I was wondering why my part of the state doesn't look that way :)
Your kids are adorable! I loved learning about your state. My husband and I just moved to Illinois, but we've always been southerners, so it is neat learning about all the northern states! Than you for welcoming us to your blog!
Ooh, ooh! I know the Great Lakes...and I actually know where each one is! We're studying that in 4th grade Geography with my son right now. : )
Your kids are too cute! Thank you for the Michigan lesson!
You had me fooled! Those are beautiful pics...and beautiful kids!
Hi Jen! It's a big day for you too--yea us! I didn't realize you lived so close. My son is a HUGE Tigers fan. We took him to the Twins/Tigers game for his birthday party on Sat., and it was seven kids cheering for the Twins and him for the Tigers. It was SUCH a nail biter (and the Twins needed a win so the crowd was going nuts), but in the end the Tigers prevailed. I was so happy for my boy. His dream is to see a Tigers game at home.
Have fun today!
Thanks for the intersting facts about Michigan. I'm glad that you were featured today!
Coming to ya from Kansas, lovin' the post!!!
Thanks for all of the beautiful seasonal pictures (that aren't from Michigan). Haha! Too funny! Thanks for all the trivia facts. You have a cute family! And congrats on your feature!
You know, I've landed in your blog before already. Just can't remember if I left you a comment :)
Anyway, You actually answered the first question that popped in my head - so you are called either a Michigander or Michiganite!!! hohoho...but you know, the cadence sounds like bad words. :(
HOMES - I had to look up the last one. But thanks for the mnemonic!
Thanks for the tour. I'll always remember HOMES. They do work!!!! And you'll always have a place to crash here in Florida :)
Hello! I am visiting from Nebraska. Thank you so much for the tour of Michigan. I learned a lot! You have beautiful children as well! Great post!!
Thanks for showing us around and for sharing about where you live. Loved the pictures of the seasons. I was like, really? All that in one state? Why haven't I been there?
All sounds great, but I'd still kinda like to live in your made up kingdom as illustrated. I'd even put up with the winter there if it looked like that!
By the way, have tagged you over at mine. Hope you don't mind x
I haven't been to Michigan before. Thanks for the fun blog. I love the hand method of locating your spot on the map. All the kiddos are adorable. I'm visiting you from Texas via BATW.
Hi - great tour. I could use a childless vacation also.
nice post...and since i'm a hoosier, we now, can't get along. just kidding! why is it that all Michigander's do the hand thing??? always wondered.
anyway, your 'gander's look fab! super fun post.
i had never been to michigan before today! so glad i boarded the plane-even tho' i hate flyin this trip was pleasant and i even learned a thing or two and the Michiganders are adorable!
I've only driven through your state on my way from Toronto to Vegas.. I remember driving through Detroit and that's it.
With all that shoreline, the fishing must be good. My hubby's been getting on my nerves lately, so I'm sending him to you... just point him toward the water, he'll bring you back some fish... he'll even cook them for you.
You're a NUT! I was looking at that first picture and couldn't for the LIFE of me figure out where Michigan was hiding mountains like that!!!!!
Thanks for the fun info on MI!!!! (which people always try to make the abbreviation for Minnesota...)
well honestly, you can't beat no threat from earthquakes or huricanes! ...what about tornadoes? any threat from them?
i'll bet your summers are pretty humid with all that water around you!
Did I ever tell you I lived in MI for 8 years? Jackson... just west of Ann Arbor.
I've heard of people born in MI being called Michiganders (my sister is one)... but I've never heard of Michiganite before. Learn something new every day!
Have fun on your BATW day :)
Well, I just love tours! Your an oh-so-fabulous tour guide!! Oh and your little Michiganders....beyond adorable...way beyond!
I was looking at those photos going, 'holy cow, that is Michigan? I so need to go there!' LOL you are so funny!
~melody~
Don't we all use the hand map here in MI? Great post!
Coming in from BATW. Good post. Your four kids are lovely. Triplets, wow. I wish I could send you on child less vacation here to New York if I had the means.
Originally from WI, I have been across that Lake many times to visit you...well, not you exactly, but you know what I mean. :)
Love it!! Miss it now that I am in NC.
Stopping in from Louisiana via BATW!! Thanks for such a great tour of Michigan. Would love to visit there someday. BTW--your children are beautiful!!
I have to admit, although I read your post about Michigan, I was having difficulty focusing as I sat here in stunned amazement that you have baby triplets. Wow! All four of your children are adorable. I have four also, but they are all two years apart. So I can't imagine what your day is like. I went to college with several people from Michigan, and they loved it. Someday I hope to visit!
My husband has been talking about the hand thing with Michigan for years...I had a patient who was an elementary school teacher and she said teaching geography of Michigan utilizing the hand was part of her curriculum. And here I thought my hubby was BS-ing me all this time!!
Thanks for the tour and random facts...I always have extra space...come on down...
Stopping in from BATW. Thanks for the tour :o)
Thank you for the info on your state! I am visiting from BATW enjoy your day!
Thanks for the introduction to Michigan!
That's so cool, I didn't know the meaning behind the state name. Very cool.
Hi from Louisiana! It is usually hot and sunny here, but I am sure you'd rather be out of the line of hurricanes, so I wont invite you in my luggage just yet! I love your blog and your kids are precious!!!
Thanks for telling us about your state! Love the pics! LOL!
I prefer Michiganders. Not that I live in Michigan and have any say, but it's so much more fun! Love the hand thing, too.
Okay, when I saw those pictures I was like "Wow, Michigan is AMAZING! I had no idea the water of the lake was so blue!" Ha ha. I can't imagine life with triplets, you're my hero. Thanks for the tour of Michigan.
Very nice post! You did us proud!
Hello from Texas. Cute blog! My husband is from the Midwest and went to Michigan a lot when he was a kid. I know, random meaningless fact! :)
Way to represent! :)
Stopped by from BATW and I love your blog! Thanks for the great peek at Michigan...and your fabulous family.
Hi from UTAH. I am a little jealous that you can use your hand as a map. Admire you for managing triplets. they are way cute as is big brother.
Happy BATW day.
Thanks for the tour of Michigan.
Great blog. First time visitor here.
My brother has triplets too.
Great song (title of your post), lol.
back to reading...
chow.
What a fun post! I am going to have to check that site out. I learned a lot about Michigan. And you are welcome to come to Cali anytime!
That Fall pic is absolutely beautiful. Wow.
Thank you for sharing your "home"!
Greetings from Ms. Oklahoma! I've never been to Michigan so thanks for all the info! WOW! Triplets...and you are still alive to tell! Congrats on your lovely family! Nice to meet ya!
From another mom up to her neck in children (five to be exact with number six due in January), God bless you!
Daja, visiting from BATW
www.gombojav.blogspot.com
I'm late, but the tour is wonderful! So, you live on the "life line?" Thank you for the great visit in MI!
My husband was born in Michigan (and is a die hard Red Wings and U of M fan). We're in So Cal now, come on over!
Thanks for stopping by BloggerDad. I love your site design (and the content). The video boys will be boys is particularly funny because your son sounds EXACTLY like my 16 month old son when he laughs at similarly weird things.
Wow, I learned a lot here! Congrats on being featured here... :)
BTW - I don't know all the Great Lakes. Oops.
Hope you enjoyed your BATW day! Sorry I'm a bit late. Thanks for the cool facts about your state. We almost vacationed there this summer but it didn't work out. So many places to visit, not enough vacation time!
Now I know where all the great pictures for calendars are taken. Abolutely breath-taking scenery.
I love that you're a Michigander. My Dad grew up in a small central Mich town called Alma. I spent many summers there and it has shaped who I am. Of course, I grew up and married an OHIO boy, creating quite the controversy for 10 Saturdays every fall, but we manage....! : )
Last summer, we took the kids to the UP and visited Mackinac. Truly, time stands still. Just love it there.
Ok, I was so going to find out where you lived, based on your hand map, and come visit you...until you said those season pictures weren't from Michigan. I still would like to visit though, I'd like to visit all 50 states sometime.
This is my first visit to Michigan, via BATW, and I enjoyed your tour.
You have four sweet babies who will be all grown up pretty soon and you'll wonder where the time went! :o)
BTW, my brother and sil had twins when their first child was 22 months - we called their house "the circus" for the first couple of years!
