Lets Bake: Apple Pie

So I gave in. Hayden has been asking and asking to make an apple pie. He even tried to give me a recipe. I couldn't take it any longer so I thought that I would try. I am in the baking mood after all, and maybe making pie is not as hard as I thought it would be.
I once again turned to the goddess of country goodness Paula Deen for help. And she did not disappoint. I found her recipe for apple pie and the perfect pie crust but I am not that talented nor do I have that kind of time so I opted to the store bought crust.
Here are the ingredients.

First you need to peel and cut up all the apples. Hayden wanted to help, so I let him, forgetting of course that the peeler is a knife. So of course, being my son and inheriting the clumsy gene, he cut his finger. Not bad, just a little slice but bad enough for a Scooby Doo band-aid. He was able to continue on as my assistant. Brave boy!

After all the apples have been peeled and sliced, mix then with the juice of one lemon. In a separate bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Then pour the sugar mixture over the apples and stir.

Once it is all combined, pour it in the pie crust. This is when you would roll out the dough if you made your own but I didn't so just imagine me rolling out the dough and making it all pretty in the pan.

Then in the oven it goes to bake. Hayden told me that we had to make sure that we kept our eye on it. And that is what he did, Quinn tried to see too.

Lastly, after dinner and a bath its time to enjoy. Yum!

I was always of the vein that if it's not chocolate, then it's not dessert. Until I decided to try Pioneer Woman's apple dumplings. And now, not only are my hips a little wider, but my palate has grown as well. I am going to have to make this sometime.

And again. Look at you. Buried with children. Prolific bloggers. Baker exroidinnaire! I'm in awe...

What sweet pictures (no pun intended - well, maybe some). A perfect way for enjoying God's goodness and provision during this season.

I'm dying for apple pie and vanilla ice cream! That looks so good...Graham has to sit and watch the oven when I bake too.

Nutmuck. I'll have to add that next time. Cooking with kids always thrills them. (But requires lots of extra mommy patience!)

Thanks for stopping by through the BATW terminal. It was so nice to meet some new people.
Hey, did you notice my pictures? It looks like I have triplets and another like you...but I don't. ALMOST though. We had one, then 4 years later had twins and then 22 months later had another. So, close. It was actually kind of crazy around our place for the first few years after the twins were born.
I feel for you...enjoy EVERY moment (if you can remember them) they REALLY don't last long!
How was the apple pie?

The unposed pictures are the best! The stories are much more fun to tell. Have a great week!

That looks so yummy and looks like y'all had a great time. I am impressed, I think I would have pulled my hair out peeling all those apples!
So glad you like your decal, I'd love to see a photo if you get one. :)

Oh, I LOOOOOVVVEEEE the fall AND apple pie!!! I invested in an apple-peeler-slicer from pampered chef just for apple pie and apple crisp. I also am adamant about the fact that since apple pie and crisp contain mainly apples, it is fair game for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desert after any or all! :-) Hayden looks like he had a great time! - and I love the scooby doo bandaid! :-)
