An Animal-less Zoo

My mother-in-law called me the other day and had a great idea of taking the kids to the zoo. She, of course, wanted to go with us and the kids, well Hayden, were all for this plan.
So off we went to the Zoo. It was a beautiful day, what could be bad about going to the zoo? Well nothing, unless of course there are no animals out. Thats right, the staff told us that the animals are only let out on the weekend.
Have you ever heard of such a thing, weekend animals?

Here is Jake trying to look at, well I don't know because there was not any animals in there.

Here is Claire dancing out side of the petting zoo. Yup, there were animals there and they were out in the yard but we were not allowed in. Apparently, animals in the petting zoo can only get pet on the weekend.

We did find one place where there was some animals, the tropical frog exhibit. Hayden, of course, loved this. He is a big frog boy. The babies were not very impressed and this little room was so crowded. Can you guess why?

These are some of the frogs that we saw.

Here is the last shot from out zoo trip. Hayden actually asked me, "Mom, what kind animal is that? I don't think that I have seen an animal like that before."
So that was our trip. I guess there is always a first time for everything. This was the first time, I had to pay for a walk (actually, my MIL had a free pass and thank goodness or I would have been really upset).

That's so funny!

Also, I know I'm late to the party, but those blueberry photos were priceless!

I have never heard of that. At our zoo if the animals are not outside you can at least see them inside. Why is the zoo even open if you can't see animals? Weird.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Never heard of a weekend Zoo, why are they even open during the week then? Did you pay to get in?

You can't pet the animals on the weekend? I didn't know they needed a day off from their busy schedule of eating and sleeping! ;)

No WAY!!!!! Let me get this straight: the animals need a break from being outside in the fresh air? WTF?

Awesome Zoo-Frogs, though. Worth the trip.

that is so weird that the animals are only out on the weekend. makes for very little time to visit huh...

Ok, I never heard of that and I would have been annoyed honestly. Did they share any logic behind why they don't at least put a sign up to let people know?

seriously??? who thought that was a good idea?

I hate it when you can't see the animals at the zoo. I remember when I was little we would go to the National Zoo in D.C. and if it was too hot half the animals were not in their enclosures. I think they did have places where you could go see them inside though. I can't exactly remember it has been years!

Ummm, I've never heard of such craziness of animals only being let out on the weekend. I'd demand a refund. That's ridiculous!!

This happened to us this summer. We went on a weekday and there were hardly any animals. If the animals are not there then they should close the zoo. Duh!

Nice photos though and I love the "creature" in the last shot.

They must have some major funding issues. Did they actually charge you admission? I kind of like the idea of a weekend pet though.....:)

Clearly the animals have full time jobs and the zoo thing it just a part-time weekend gig.

Do you think they get paid weekend option pay, double the fish food for the bears? All you can eat banana's for the monkeys? oh, the life!

Kameron said...

How can they even charge admission if there is nothing to see??!!! They shouldn't be open if there are no animals out!

Cristin said...

That's ridiculous! They charge admission and don't let the animals out? I'd have raised hell if I had paid for that!

I am Laughing at Lizzy's comment. Of course most of her comments make me laugh. And wish that I could be so clever. But I digress...

That is the strangest thing I have ever heard of. Why are they even open during the week? Do they want everyone to crowd around the frogs? So, so strange!

Those poor frogs and their over-inflated, false egos. "Check us out, we're soooo popular! Suck on that you big elephant, you!"

Completely ridiculous. Then they should call it a Zzz. They don't deserve the oo's.

Wow, that is the first I ever heard of that. Hope you didnt have to travel too far. Seems like it wasn't too much of a waste though. Man, my babies are afraid of frogs...lol, so is their daddy.

Well that is a complete waste of money.. haha.. I have never heard of that either. Why would the zoo be open if the animals can't play.

Looks like you had fun anyway.

scargosun said...

Um...that is crazy. I would have probably done something illegal to the park employee that informed me that there were no animals...after I had paid. Good think you didn't have to pay. Sheesh.

That is plain ridiculous - weekend animals? I love taking C to the zoo during the week to avoid the crowds. It's a perk of being a SAHM.

Dear Lord! No animals except on weekends!?! That's insane! I hope it was a free zoo!
HOLY!

What no animals on display? That is just plain craziness!

tiarastantrums said...

well, did you get in for free then?

Either the zoo doesn't want to make money or the animals are too busy with there weekly TV shows. What is this world coming to?

WHA??? That's crazy, I have never heard of such a thing! Sorry you and the kiddos didn't get to see more animals...

Cute pics though!

That's the strangest thing I've ever heard!

Who goes to the zoo to see... nothing?

CaraBee said...

That is the craziest thing I have ever heard! Why are they even open if they don't let the animals out? And does that mean that the animals are all cooped up inside all week and they only get daylight on weekends?

Heather said...

No animals!!? That's just craziness.

Karen said...

Wow......were the animals naughty and put on restriction? We have a zoo here and the only time they are not out is when it is too cold for a certain animal. The polar bears are always, always out. Weekends only.......That is complete craziness to me.

That is insane. They TAKE MONEY from people even though they don't put the animals out? What a rort.

Nicole said...

That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

Zip n Tizzy said...

That's unbelievable!
I went to the zoo once during the week with my sister, and we were the only people at the zoo, but no animals?
That's insanity!

Gretchen said...

That is super weird. PLEASE tell me you didn't pay to get in there. If you did, I would certainly demand a refund.

Andrea said...

Crazy!?! I think they should at least notify you when you pay the entrance fee.

Working weekends only? Free food? Fair accomodations? Lots of fans? When can I move in?

Shannon said...

What??? No animals???? Only on the weekends???? Does the zoo not want visitors????

Like you said, at least you didn't have to pay to get in... 'cause if that had been me, and I'd paid admission and then told that the animals aren't let out on weekdays, I'd have demanded a refund! Seriously!
