As Good as its Going to Get

Ever have one of those days where you walk by a mirror and you do a double take because, oh god, is that how I look today? I knew it was bad but I didn't think that it was that bad?

Ever have one of those days when you swear that over night you gained 20 lbs because none of your jeans fit that way that they did yesterday?

Ever have one of those days when every single article of clothing is wrong, just wrong and you are questioning what in the world was I thinking when I bought this?

Ever have one of those when instead of going through the process of getting dressed, hair done and make-up, you just want to stay in bed and eat your way out of a pint of Ben and Jerry's?

Today is one of those day.

I usually try to look descent when I go out in public. I really do try. I may not always knock it out of the park, but I do try. I am an avid watcher of TLC's 'What Not Wear' and I try and follow 'the rules' but today it is not working. Sorry Stacy and Clinton, I am going out in my ratty mom jeans and my worn gray sweatshirt that is 3 sizes to big and I may or may not be wearing a bra. I did take a shower and attempt make-up and my hair, well thats a whole other issue. So for today, I am frumpy comfort and that is as good as its going to get.

Mr. B gave me his cold (ahh... our first germ swap) and I'm at work, dressed up, and SOOOOOO wanting to be at home in my jammie pants and sweatshirt and NO bra on my couch with my blankie & my remote.

Looking top notch can be so over rated. Especially on days when nothing seems right. I get it. I'm not entirely against frump. I believe it has it's time and place. I wish it was cold enough to wear a sweatshirt here.

Every morning as I dress for my corporate shin-dig I like to call a "job", I wish upon all that is ratty & comfortable that I could just go into the office in sweats, a tank with built-in bra and flip-flops.

Hair do optional.

I knew I forgot something today. Ididn't brush my hair or change out of what I slept in. I'm a bloody mess today! Boy can I relate to this post. In fact, I'm gonna go brush my teeth and put a baseball cap on...

It's okay. Sometimes I have those days, and I still need to go to the office. I hope you can get some Ben & Jerry's at least.

Ya know what I think sucks? That moms get chastised for "dressing comfortably" in old jeans and old t-shirts or sweatshirts. They say it looks like we're not trying. Especially if we don't comb our hair!

Now, picture a woman who is wearing jeans with a hole in the knee and one more by the pocket. A shirt that is clearly too tight. And her hair, very ratty, pulled into a sloppy ponytail.

If she's 17, she's considered hip. Even more so if she weighs 110 pounds.

If she's me, she is 36 years old, weighs about 50 pounds more than that, and is considered a slob.

I think the fashion police are just out to get us!

But seriously, it's not fair that as we age, we have to try twice as hard just to avoid being considered slovenly.

Ditto day for me. Except I don't think I own make-up that was purchased before 1997 so I won't be putting that on! There are days I love being a nurse with which I get to wear scrubs, it's like going to work in your PJ's!

I'm frumpy and comfortable most days. That is probably as good as its going to get until the kids get older.

What Stacey and Clinton forget is that right now, your family, especailly your kids, probably don't care what you look like. So go ahead, frump it up!!!

I have a secret mission for you but I can't find your e-mail address. Would you please send me an e-mail (my address is in my profile) so I can explain?

Everyday has been like that for me lately! I didn't realize you could get new stretch marks on top of old stretch marks. That's awesome...

Hi Jen. Thanks for coming by my blog today. So glad you enjoyed the tour. Hope you come back again.
I have days when I feel like I'm so big. I totally can relate!!

Oh, me too, Jen!! I said to Sonny Ma-Jiminy this morning, "I'm feeling really FRUMPY today!" And he got a worried look on his face and said, "Why are you grumpy?" He must have thought it was something he did.

I'm going to work and I look like a hobbit.

YEA boooy. Of course.

You should have seen the looks I got when I picked my son up from MDO today....dropped him off in a blinged out BCBG track suite. CUTE. Picked him up in jeans from Tarjay, rain boots and a tshirt. (I never wear tshirts, not even to work out)

I was working around our property all day and lost track of time. No time to clean up after I realized I would be late to pick him up. I was SO mad at my hubby that he wouldn't go get our son.

Oh, please. This is me every day. I love watching that show. But I am sure that if they saw me, they'd want to schedule an intervention. But I am surely not going to wear pretty things and pointy shoes to do mom things. I think I might give them an apopolexy with my collection of Birks and Crocs...

Working from home I can wear anything I want. Every now and again I get caught out be a client not ringing for an appointment. I'm always a bit worried if I have the flu and am still in my PJs at 10am.

Yep, I have definitely had days like this! Some days are just meant to be spent in elastic-waist pants. And big comfy tees or sweatshirts.

Yea, I think my husband comes home most days and thinks "this is what I married? she used to be...pretty." Although he'll never admit it. Maybe when all the kids are in school again and I finally lose those 40 baby lbs.....

OMG, I just had one of those days. Everything in my closet was either too tight, just plain out-of-style, age inappropriate or ugly. I haven't missed a day of work in 3 years, but I seriously thought about staying home from work or going to work in my pajamas. BTW - I am a "What Not To Wear" fanatic.

Several months back one of my coworkers mentioned that I "wasn't trying to impress anyone" since I'd had the baby. I replied that I was purposefully trying to lure Stacy and Clinton to my workplace to hand over that $5,000 gift card!
By the way, what's up with your feet expanding after pregnancy and hormones that change your hair texture? As if the expanding mid-section wasn't enough to deal with!
I just tell myself that I'm focusing on my inner beauty right now. (:

It seems I have been having more and more of those days. I stopped doing much to myself in the AM before work so I can get stuff done around the house. While that's great & all for the house, it leaves me feeling less than a woman sometimes. A whole week goes by and it starts affecting me. The danger is it happens subconsciously. So, here & there is cool but we need to take care of ourselves more. Even when I don't feel like it, I put on a better outfit and instantly my mood changes.

Hey, came over from Angie's WW a few days late. My there are so many particpating I can't get to everyone on Wed. You WW post is great and I love this one. I feel the same way and you know, I wish I could have a personal shopper like Stacy to pick out my clothes and accessories! I work with some Stacy type women and they are amazing at what they put together.
Hang in there! Frumpy Comfort Women...Unite!

I live in mortal fear those What Not To Wear people will find me! my only sense of style is "clean" and that usually only lasts 15 minutes so...

Welcome to my world today.

So glad to hear that there are others out there that just say, bag this and go on with their lives. I live in Stepford, the Nicole Kiddman stepford version. The women that take their kids to school having bin up for hours working out, assembling the best October fall fashion forward outfit with their perfectly coiffed hair and glamour nails dropping off their perfectly scrubbed kids with their nutriously balanced lunch and completed homework. Then there is me, just rolled out of bed, slippers and what not, droping the kids off in a lack-of-sleep daze hoping that someone grabbed a pop-tart for their lunch.
That is life people.... the other is just a farse.
Thanks for keeping it real!!!

I was smiling through this whole post...Oh, I've been there more times than I would like to admit! However my choice wouldn't be to crawl into bed with Ben & Jerrys it would be crawling into bed to go back to sleep!!!

I know these days. I seem to have them a lot.

Aha. I enjoy watching Stacy and Clinton as well, though so often it seems they are busily throwing out MY clothes. I have to run to the closet and make sure there is still stuff in there...

Some days perfection eludes us. Some weeks it eludes us. Sometimes we hope that our children will think all the normal mommies wear saggy-bum sweatpants with mystery stains and it's the freaks who have clean stylish clothes and every hair in place...

O happy Sunday.
