Science 101

So here in the north and most other parts of the country, it is cold. I wonder what would happen if boiling water was thrown into the air. Would it turn to ice or steam?

This is a cool 'science experiment' that you can try at home, that is if you live where is it cold enough that is if not just live through us.

Boil some water and then take it outside and throw it in the air. It is so cold outside that the water will all turn to steam before any of it hits the ground. You just get this big cloud. Interesting, huh?

That's so cool. I didn't know boiling water would do that. Shows you how much I paid attention in physics...

we're not in the north, but it's pretty cold here. i'll have to try this with my cherubs and kiddies.

They were doing this in Chicago on The Today Show on Friday. It's amazing!!

Hubby and I are watching this and can't wait to try it... Hubby is asking how cold it was when you did that...

B would love that! I will have to try it. Today it was 50 degrees but I am certain some cold weather will be headed our way later this week.

That is so cool! I've never thought to try that!
It's too warm to try it right now
(59*), but I'm sure it will get cold again. And we ARE trying this!
Thank you for sharing!!
I always love your posts!!

See, there are some good things about being married to a dorky scientist type (and being a bit of one myself)!! Useless cool info!

I love this! Never knew that would happen, and I was a meteorology major for two years.

Awesome.

Is this a bad time to say it got close to 70 today in Dallas? Yes? OK, ignore me.

Neat demo. I love using demos when I teach pre-med physics classes - doctor wanna-bes are real suckers for a demo.

WOW It never gets that cold here that it would do that! That is incredible!!

That means it must be VERY cold. I think there were a couple of days here recently where I could have thrown ice cubes into the air and they would have hit the ground as water, but I could be exaggerating.

That looked so cool! I will NEVER be able to do that--but check back with me this summer when I am frying eggs on the sidewalk!!

See the fun you can have in cold, cold weather!

So here in the South we don't typically get as cold as you guys do up there... ya buch of Yanks! Swear on everything that is holy this last week was like one big freakin popsicle, so our local news actually did this experiment LIVE on air! And the whole time I was thinking.... this has to be a joke right?? Those people up north would be laughing their butts off (if they haven't already frozen them off) at the fact that we are whining about a little cold snap!

Our cold spell in Florida reached 38 which to us is freezing. No water throwing for us. Thanks for tapeing it.

Oh, my boys would love this! (It was zero degrees F here this morning in Wisconsin.)
