Now, I don't mind the bathing, the hair combing, the teeth brushing, the nose wiping, the face cleaning and all the other little things that need to be done to keep my kids looking nice.
But the one task that I can't stand is the fingernail and toenail clipping. No. I don't have any issues with fingernails and toenails themselves. Well, I don't like that Jeff chews on them after he bites them off but that is a whole other story.
I just have issue with the sheer number of toenails and fingernails that are in this house. It is a bit overwhelming. A daunting task that never seems to end.
I have 4 children and each child has 2 hands and 2 feet with 10 fingers and 10 toes each. You can do the math. There are a lot of nails to be cut and they need to be cut at least once a week.
If I let them go any longer each child's hand becomes a razor sharp little weapon. Hayden has even tested the sharpness in Jacob's eye leaving him with a corneal abrasion. Not to mention all the times that I have gotten cut and scratched.
I can't take it anymore! They seem to grow faster than I can cut them. I just get them all cut, feeling good about life and then someone scratches me. Darn, fast growing fingernails. It just another reason to stop feeding them.
So today, while I was out shopping. I saw this product.

It is the one job that always gets left till the last possible minute in our house. It just doesn't seem important until I find the 3 year old chewing his own toenails off. Grim.
hahaha I dare you. Do it! Do it, do it, do it!!
I'm up at 4am cleaning throw up and diarrhea off the walls. The fumes have gone to my head.
A fried of mine because the grandmother of twins, and she once said how she and her husband helped with the girls by doing their nails. She said, "That's 40 nails - that's a lot of nails!!!" And I was in awe.
Then I met you and ever since, it's been on my mind. Jeff and Jen have 80 nails to do! Ack! How do they manage?
And part of my fear stems from the fact that both my kids have been screamers when their nails are done! Sonny's better now he's older, but Smoochy shrieks and carries on shouting, "OW OW OW!" before you even touch her.
So I let the nails grow and then chip and peel off themselves.
Not good for the nails, and you'd better hope not to get scratched. Get me one of those PediPaws things.
Nooooo! (although it is tempting).
I once knew a woman who didn't believe in using nail clippers or scissors on her children, so she BIT THEIR NAILS OFF!
Her children were 2 and 4. That's just all kinds of gross isn't it!
Do you think it could shave a few milimeters of my big nose?
hmmmm...i have tons of nails to get trimmed here too. i hate it! and, it's gross!!!
I would try it, just cause I am lazy and hate cutting nails too.
Aidan always asks to have his nails trimmed. I have no idea why he likes it but I have delegated it to Aaron. He is officially the nail trimmer of the house. I can barely keep my own looking nice. Speaking of which I think I need a nail file right now...
Too funny!! I'd love anything that helps with clipping nails! I can't keep my toddler still...it's such a HUGE ordeal! Ugh!
And don'tcha just hate it when you're clipping nails over a trash basket, and they go flying off to some other part of the room?
I H.A.T.E cutting my kids nails too. They grow like super quickly. What gives? When I try to grow out my nails they take forever.
everytime my hubby sees this commercial he feels the need to remind me that, that is just a drimmell tool.. you might look into that.. might be cheaper lol
HA HA HA - we have that - it wont work on kids! But great idea!!
hahaha! i can thankfully get away with every other week trimmings around here, but i just did it on sunday and it is such a painful process! especially since the little ones HATE it!
Ugh!! I hate doing this task with one child. Delia always has nails that are too long. I feel for you, mama!
BTW, thanks for the compliments on her name. :)
Hehe that is definitely one part of the little diva's getting older I do not miss at all.
I can tell you from experience that letting one kid push the other kids' nail back and break it off midway is not a good alternative cuz you have to deal with the blood and the b*tching. ;)
We usually take our dog outside to file her nails on the concrete patio. Works for the kids, too. Make sure you have extra Band-Aids, though.
I never have to deal with nails. Except my own. Well...I suppose I really don't deal with those either since I go to a salon. But...the why is gross. They bite them. Including their toes. It's nasty...
From some of those other comments, it seems your (what I thought was brilliant) idea probably won't work on children.
However, my solution for making any task just a wee bit easier is to put some music on while you take on the task. That's about all I got. Good luck and I'll be thinking about you next time I'm doing only 30 nails!
I feel your pain!!!! It is bad when My Son was in preschool and his teacher mentioned that it would be easier for him to hold his pencil if his nails were trimmed. (oh the horror.) Let me know how it works.
As for me....I would love a manicure.
Again, if you figure out how to solve this one, you let me know. My daughter acts like I am shoving red hot pokers under her fingernails when I try to trim them. She writhes, wails, cries. It's ugly. Seriously, though, how do they grow so fast? My nails take weeks to grow the same amount hers does in three days.
It takes 2 adults to hold Peanut down for any kind of trimming (hair, nails, ect). Heck, even Jay squirms at the sight of our clippers.
I am actually taking Peanut for her 1st mani/pedi this weekend to see if that solves the problem.
I am from a very small family and I have a very small family. I am constantly amazed at the logisitcs of what it takes to have a large family. This is a prime example:-)
Seriously, here is what I would do (and I do do this too) (hee hee I said do do)
Each child has a "day" of their own. Hayden-Monday. Claire-Tuesday. Boy triplet-Wednesday. Other Boy triplet-Thursday. On "their" day they get their nails trimmed before bed. They also get to pick out the bedtime story to be read to everyone. They also get to pick the (whatever. Insert item to bicker about here.) This system works AWESOME for me. My 3 olders each have a "day" (Pep Patty gets M&Th, Charlie B. gets Tu&F, Linus gets Wed&Sat). That is their day to get in the shower first, help clear the dinner table, pick the tv show, get dessert served first to them, etc. That way I don't have to remember if I'm being "fair" or who went last or whose turn it is, blah blah BLAH. Plus it really helps them understand: 'I know you want to be first but tomorrow is your day and you will get to be first all day long'.
It will work best with Hayden but the triplets will figure it out soon. Good luck with that!
Please try it and let me know, I have a fiance that desperately needs a manicure/pedicure!!
Ok, when my 1st born was an infant I accidently cut off a tad bit of her finger the first time I trimmed her nails. So I was totally paranoid having to do it after that.
My girls want me to buy Pedi Paws (ah, for the dogs). They said that down at the ranch the owner has one and not only does it work on the dogs but the owner used it on herself.
So hey...........could be a fun new toy. :)
Ha! That's great! I completely agree. My kids nails grow from nothing to knives overnight. One day they are fine, the next I'm looking at them thinking "who is your mother?!"
Hahahahaha....fabulous idea! Now if we could only ivent something to prevent dirt under the nails!
OK, I was thinking the same thing the other night.....why does it seem like I'm always clipping nails and toenails? Apparently I'm not the only one. :)
Ha! I'm right there with you and I only have 2 kids to keep trimmed.
I have an award for you at my blog.
i hate cutting finger/toe nails, too. i always get the whiny, "you got my skin." well, then hold still!!
maybe this would work for kiddies :)
They should totally make something like this for kids. I can't let my boys' nails go for even a little while or they turn into nasty, dirty claws.
Seriously, I could have written this!! I was JUST bitching to Jeff about the fact that I am constantly clipping nails. I kinda wish they would just bite them and save me the work.
I can only imagine what a pain that must be. I only have one kid but cutting his toenails is this big dramatic production. He acts like we are killing him or something. It usually ends up with me holding him down on the floor while my husband struggles to cut his razor sharp toenails while he screams and cries "Mommy and Daddy -- stop hurting me! Let me go." It is awful. I don't know why he acts like this ... but now he is learning the fine art of manipulation and trying to get new toys if we let him cut his toenails. I can't even imagine the hell you are in with all those toenails (and I couldn't do the math -- I'm really bad at math but I know it is a lot).
Oh yeah--I hate the clipping! Plus I have 3 seta of dog nails--eww! Ishould definitely check out that gizmo!
The content you have provided is pretty interesting and useful and I will surely take note of the point you have made in the blog.
Today while I was surfing the Internet, I read about Gel Nails being the latest trend now in the nail fashion industry. After reading about gel nails, I think it’s a great way to dress up your nails giving them a trendy look. I also came across this site gel-nails where you can check out some really cool stuff for your nail decoration.
If you are a professional nail artist or run a nail salon, you can get a bulk order discount and use the best nail products for your customers. I have bought the professional luxury gel nail kit from here and this is great value for my money.
I thought this information might be useful for anyone looking for genuine nail decoration stuff and may not know where to buy them from.
