What Are You Wearing: The Smell of Deodorant

A while back while at Target, I saw a bin of Secret deodorant. It was on sale for 4 for $2. I was cool with this and grabbed 4 from the bin. I didn't really pay attention to the scents because it was cheep and I was in need of deodorant.

To me deodorant, it is a necessity, a thing that we must wear every single day. It is not pretty when you don't wear it. I got the 'pleasure' of working with a doctor who didn't wear deodorant. It was not pretty. You could smell him before you saw him. But this is not my point and I have gotten off track.

So am now on my last bottle of this bargain bin Secret deodorant. Let me tell you there was a reason these scents were in the bargain bin. They are scents that I feel, no one in their right mind would choose (no offense if you like this scent, it is just so not for me).

This last bottle is by far the most annoying. It is call Vanilla Chi but to me is smells like super sweet bubble gum. So through out the day, as it releases it's scent, I get taken over by the sickeningly sweet smell of bubble gum.
My first reaction is confusion. I can't place the smell. Then I get annoyed. Why is this smell following me. Then I get mad. The kids must have gotten some bubble gum or candy and they are eating it all over the house and making a huge mess. Then I realize its me.

I can't tell you how many times during the day this happens. Stupid deodorant!

Next time, you bet your panties I will be paying attention to the scent and maybe even put a little on before I choose one to take home. Kidding, just kidding.

Yeah, I stick to Powder Fresh.

I have had the same thing happen to me! (-:

I went to the christmas tree shop, and they had deodorant for 99 cents so I stocked up and didn't pay attention to the scents. There is a reason it is so cheap. LOL

That is funny!
It looks so pretty though!!

I try mine on before leaving the store. I don't see the problem...

I stick with the usual scents... don't like ones that could potentially make me hungry.

WOW! Vanilla Chai is a strange enough smell to have coming from your armpits, but bubble gum?! Amazing! What do you think the test panel was thinking? I have done that "where is that smell coming from" thing before but it usually IS from something the kid has done to me! lol.

I hate it when a good deal turns out to be not a good deal.

As I am said...

OMG. Too funny. As you talk about deoderant I think to myself. I haven't put any on yet today. So I grab my bottle Secret Vanilla Sparkle (which I keep right next to me on my desk) and put it on ... as I am reading. Only to learn that it's almost the same kind that your talking about.

I love that stuff! I work for a home taste testing company that sells chai so when I showed this to the other ladies they thought it was great!

All scents work with body chemistry. Must be why I smell like cookies and not bubblegum!lol

The minute I saw the picture I said......EWWWW, I hate that scent!

My daughter and I love that variety of deodorant. One time she wanted to step away from the Asian Pear scent and bought the vanilla chai.

I told her it smelled horrible but she liked it.....until I bought it and she decided it was disgusting.

Not is sits in the car as emergency deodorant!

I am very picky about what my pits smell like! LMAO... But seriously though I do have a thing about smelling deo's before I buy them... some people get paid WAY too much money to come up with some nasty smelling crap!!

i never want my pits to smell like food. yuck

I have to remind my girls every day to wear deodorant. I don't understand why they resist. But they do. And then yesterday Katie brought me her stick of "Teen Spirit" and ewww. It smelled like bad medicine. Vile stuff. No wonder they didn't want to wear it. So, today. We are going on an oldfactory adventure for some new deodorant...

hahaha, i am rolling on the floor laughing at your bubble gum scented pits! lol!

Aunt Julie said...

Hmmmmmm...Never heard of bubble-gummy deoderant. I'll bet you smell super sweet!

Rachel said...

Awesomeness! Does it sparkle under your arms, too?

Sometimes I like weird sweet-smelling fragrences--but I tend to like the "powdery" scents in deodorants. The bubble gum smell does sound gross--but you got a good deal on them!

GIRL I SWEAT MY BUTT OFF chasing these kids so I use the EXPENSIVE SECRET CLINICAL STRENGTH-light a fresh scent-haven't sweated A DROP since I started!

Okay, I admit that I switched to using hippie deodorant that has no scent. I love it. heh.

That stuff sounds awful! lol.

I love Secret deoderant. But this has happened to me as well when I decide to switch scents. I have been lucky so far in that when I smell it and say "ohh someone smells nice" and realize it's me I am midly surprised. But if you don't like the smell, well yea that would suck. But it's hard to pass up a barganza like that!

Swift Jan said...

See, I wouldn't have stuck it out. I would have headed to the supermarket by now to get my usual "powder fresh" scent.
I cant handle bad smelling stuff.

I once spent a lot of money on shampoo that I thought smelled nice at first. But after the second time I used it the smell got too sickly sweet & I stopped using it!

I got this deodorant in Mexico that smelled VERY flowery ... to the point it made me get these horrible headaches.

I am sticking to American deodorant from here on out.

Deb said...

hysterical! my husband actually wears that! he loves the scenty stuff. but he hardly ever sweats and NEVER smells. makes me feel so feminine. NOT!

funny post!

Eww. That would definitely be a nasty deodorant and I think it would also make me mad!

Mom said...

I've done this before! I grabbed the wrong container so when I'd catch a sniff I'd be looking around trying to figure out where it was coming from...always took a minute to realize it was me! lol
Who wants to purposely smell like sweet bubblegum??

Cristin said...

I've only used Secret for as long as I can remember... but I stick to the powder scent...

Jenn said...

I still say that deodorant is just wrong...but then again my hand smells like vanilla bean coffee.

CC said...

Bwhahaha! So... how does it taste?? ;)

Givinya De Elba said...

Yuck! I hate deodorants that smell worse than the body odour they're supposed to cover up.

Mr de Elba bought a bathroom air freshener that has the worst smell I've ever nearly puked over. Now that I have nausea everyday (not long til the 2nd trimester now) I find myself gasping for fresh air and trying to hold down my food whenever he sprays it.

If only I could remember to buy a better-smelling replacement, I'd be able to throw the ghastly one in the trash.

bubble gum, ymmmm.

snap!

Always go with the unscented. Well worth the extra buck or two.

Sheesh, I can't imagine how that must smell. Even the container looks like it sprung out of a genie's bottle!

Cathy said...

Wow I don't think I have ever seen that flavor/scent. I will keep that in mind.

Don't tell Connie but sometimes discounts and coupons aren't worth it!

I bought this too. It physically made me feel sick to my stomach. I feel you pain, my friend.

ewwww! i know that scent. i'm "incharge" of getting the freebies for our school and one of the freebies i secured last year were health kits for the tween boys and girls. the boys had nice smelling old spice deodorant and body wash. the girls kit had this exact deodorant!!! they all loved it. the teacher couldn't stand to walk in to the classroom. it took her a few days to figure out what the stink was. fortunately, they only had trial sizes - so they didn't last too long :)

Allegro ma non troppo said...

I HATE realising that some annoying smell is actually me.

Better luck with your next deodorant!

Gretchen said...

Oh gosh that makes me laugh so hard. I was at walmart the other day and they had all the "holiday" scented bath wash bottles on sale. Fragrances like "hot cocoa" and "vanilla sugar" BLEECH!! I don't want to smell like a sugar cookie or a chocolate bar, thank you! Your story was too funny!!!

BUT IT'S BETTER THAN SMELLING LIKE A TURD!!!!!

Shannon said...

I have not smelled that one... but note to self: don't buy it.

I usually buy whatever brand is on sale or that I have a coupon for... I'll change brands, but I get only the powder scented.
